RJD2

Rjd2's music is a collage of cut-and-paste hip-hop that combines disparate elements to make for soulful, moody portraits of the world. Born Ramble John Krohn in Eugene, Oregon, on May 27, 1976, he moved to Columbus, Ohio, a few years later and was raised there. He first busted out onto the hip-hop scene in 1998 -- a time when producers were emerging from the shadows to seize the spotlight -- as the DJ/producer for the Columbus-based group Megahertz. MHz had two 12" singles released on Bobbito Garcia's Fondle 'Em Records and the group was mentioned in Vibe Magazine's History of Hip Hop.

In 2000, Rjd2 produced Copywrite's debut single, "Holier Than Thou," on Rawkus Records. In the spring of 2001, he made his first formal appearance as a solo artist on the Def Jux Presents... compilation, proving he could hold his own alongside such luminaries as Company Flow, El-P, Cannibal Ox, and Aesop Rock. Rjd2's debut album, Dead Ringer, followed on Def Jux in 2002. One of the best underground hip-hop releases of the year, it melded dirty samples and a classic approach to song structure for an end result that gave DJ Shadow, DJ Spooky, and Moby a run for their money. Aside from his top-billed recordings, he also provided productions for Cage's Hell's Winter and Aceyalone's Magnificent City (the latter also spawned an instrumentals album, Magnificent City Instrumentals).

Rjd2 returned in 2004 with Since We Last Spoke, which blended hip-hop with elements of pop. He then moved to XL to fully indulge his passion for pop, releasing The Third Hand in early 2007. In early 2010, he dropped The Colossus. It was the first album to be released on his own label, RJ’s Electrical Connections. Months later, he released Inversions of the Colossus, containing instrumental versions of The Colossus' vocal tracks and several additional cuts. The album More Is Than Isn't arrived in 2013 and featured appearances from Phonte Coleman, Aaron Livingston, and Blueprint. ~ Charles Spano, Rovi

Did not know that the Mad Men theme was by RJD2. That's so weird, since I've loved him for so long, but never knew that.

So sick getting down to this funk right now
Um, look at every DJ...ever. Or almost the entirety of hip hop and rap with the endless samples.
Or Orgy and how the only reason they got big was because of a cover.
I didn't know you could make a living ripping off other people's music.
I discovered his music from watching MAD MEN, the opening theme music was soo dope!
Great sounds n satisfying

Time Time TIME TIME time to understand the monster.
This guy is awesome been listening to him for a couple years! Just found out hes from CBUS, nice im also from Columbus. I used to listen to DJ Shadow he does remind me a little of him. When most kids played sports I had my parents buy me a turntable setup. I have mad reapect when you can listen to a instramental and break your neck to a beat.
makes me want to mash something - in an incredibly good, positive way
I love this guy he is the most amazing dj that I have heard in a while besides dj shadow not to hate on him or anything just wanted to give props where it's due
Makes me want to get a beat machine and put my wax to work
I swear the guy on the front of Deadringer is wearing a Utili-Kilt

A sick beats!

That's funny, because Weather People reminds me of some Goosebumps music.
HipHop consists of certain various elements. If you remove one or more of the elements then you don't have HipHop? I think that HipHop exists in many forms; just due to a track having a jazzy & laid back vibe doesn't dilute it's heart. It's heart beats with the HipHop rhythm
No mention of this being the Mad Men theme?!!
No mention of this being the Mad Men theme?!!
The original song came from movie 1977 Suspiria by GOBLIN.
weather people song is the exact song from movie, Suspiria 1977 Horror movie, by Italian Director, Dario Argento. I was lucky to have met him and receive his autograph in the 80's. Play the movie and the song from Rjd2 is the exact song from that Horror movie 1977.
I really like thes guys a lot come to think of it tree one of my favs
@sunnyfieldm i n d 2 - You should know that hip-hop evolved from many things in the late 60s, and rap wasn't introduced to it until later. This beat and everything about it is solely hip-hop and crunk. Not that rap is bad, not by any means - it can easily be a smooth and expressive style of vocals - but hip-hop doesn't need rap.
I'm so glad Ghostwriter came up on Pandora. I will always like this.
This beat is BANGING! !!¡!
This is chill as hell I love the original too
Mad men holy sheeeet
Hip hop dont STOP
This is hip-hop.With o u t DJs and instrumental s there would be only poetry.
sunnyfieldmi n d 2 , hip hop is not synonymous with rap. your comment provides a clear window to your ignorance.
This song is SO CHILL
My favorite artist him and jt... this song makes me appreciate earth more... idk y tho and it also makes me wanna cry idk y tho... his music is BEAUTIFUL
Hip Hop is synonymous with rap. Talking over beats, with stolen hooks from real music. I guess we could get into a philosophica l argument about it - is it what it IS , or is it what people think it is and how they mean it when they say it ? I don't think this is hip hop...
because it is hip hop which is a form of jazz. it is not rap, which operates through the hip hop medium, and is imho often unjustly melded into the same category.
I don't get why they claim this is Hip Hop . Anyone else think that is a strange label for this music?
I have decided... I'm going to make a music video for the ghostwriter.
RJD2 uses elliott smith dubs and are therefore superb. besos on yous.
