I was fortunate enough to see REK ,Lyle Lovette and Steve Earl at the Moody in Austin. Best $25.00 I ever spent. That's why I live in Austin.

Fix your info Pandora!!! This song was written by Dave Alvin and originally done by X on the album See How We Are and IMO, a much better version than this.
I've never been a huge fan of his voice, but the songwriting more than makes up for it for me. As such, I tend to like his songs better when covered by others with better voices (e.g., Shawn Colvin). However, Merry Christmas From the Family could not work if done by anyone else but REK. That's a classic.

If I had the money he would play at my 65th in a giant hall!

Sounds like Hootie and the Blowfish with a little (old) Springsteen thrown in! Like it.
i love me some REK, but he wasn't the first alternative country artist as the reviewer says. See Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Willis Alan Ramsey, Billy Joe Shaver et al from the early 70's.

"Had me a French girlfriend, loved the way she...talked". Long live REK!
saw REK for the first time at Roseburg Oregon at a free show down by the river, awesome show and the cool thing is that more and likey I was the only one there that has even heard of him here on the left coast.

For my wife's (then gf) 20th birthday her folks got us a pair of tickets to see REK @ The Grand Opera House in Galveston, Texas. It was the BEST REK show EVER!! The band finished with an acoustic set of 4-5 songs without amps at all. He got us all quiet and wowed the hell outta us. Great performer/musician/songwriter/TEXAN.
