Sweden's Scar Symmetry was founded in 2004 by vocalist Christian Älvestam, guitarists Jonas Kjellgren and Per Nilsson, bassist Kenneth Seil, and drummer Henrik Ohlsson -- all of them veterans of numerous prior heavy metal bands (Carnal Forge, Centinex, Altered Aeon, Incapacity, etc.) -- whose diverse gamut of styles ultimately influenced the new project's own eclectic sound. Presented to the masses via 2005's Symmetric in Design debut album, Scar Symmetry's material combines death and power metal with progressive flourishes, drawing positive comparisons to bands like Soilwork and Into Eternity, and promising great things yet to come. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Rovi
The first singer for this band is one of the most versatile vocalists i've ever heard. To do both those guttural growls and to also have the ability to sing beautifully is rare.
Man, these guys would be a first-rate class act without the devil voice, which is annoying. Great guitar work, good strong melodies, excellent instrumental breaks, solid song-writing. Why do so many of these talented bands have to throw in the (now way overdone) gruff devil-voice? Still, I'm keeping them on my Pandora list.
just so you know scar symmetry consisted of members mainly of lost horzon, altered aeon , and luciferion , so perhaps some religious reason was involved since alvestam did a song with demon hunter( a christian rock band) The Unseen Empire , song , The Draconian Arrival reffers to that similar to Behemoth's - - - Reign of The Shemsu Hor and Rise of the Nephilim off the Demigod album
hmm well....i have taken a likiing to every album i heard although the earlier stuff was among their heaviest , they are singing about how ppl are anaware and caught in the everyday complancies and monotonies of life and how we should be better than that , with that said they do posses some religious element in thier lyrics among the time that alvestam was with them
I have to say that Holographic Universe was Scar Symmetry's prime. It's understandable that Christian left, but I don't think the last two albums had the same depth as the first three. Sure I love songs like The Anomaly, but even that simply doesn't have as much depth and complexity compared to say, Artificial Sun Projection or even something older like Deviate From The Form. Regardless, I hope Scar Symmetry pushes out another awesome album in a year or two.
Its so popular to like the original singer of a band to show how old school of a fan you are. But people need to jump off the bandwagon of sucking Christians C0CK

hotrodd Christian left because of creative differences. Apparently him and Per argued quite a bit about composition. Also, he didn't like doing as much touring as what the rest of the band liked. He basically just didn't want to do things the same way as the rest of Scar Symmetry did
@ Zac Religious thoughts? I think SS just sings about robots n' s**t. Thats about it. And most of the robots I know are pretty cool... with the exception of a few a$$ hole robots. But you'll have that... you know... a$$ hole robots. I hate a$$ hole robots.
I can't get into anything they've produced after Älvestam left. It's kind of hard to take them seriously with 2 separate vocalists. Holographic Universe was definitely their prime.
Honestly, they aren't the same without Christain. The new guys aren't bad, but they can't compare to him. I hope Solution .45 comes out with some new stuff soon.
Wasn't sure about The Unseen Empire at first but after a few weeks, and many listens it's grown on me. I can't fault a band for trying something different, and I think it will grow on a lot of you if you give it a chance.
