Sevendust

The Atlanta-based quintet Sevendust became one of the rising acts in late-'90s heavy metal with an aggressive blend of bottom-heavy riffs and soulful, accessible melodies. The band, comprised of frontman Lajon Witherspoon, John Connolly (guitar), Clint Lowery (guitar), Vince Hornsby (bass), and Morgan Rose (drums), first appeared in 1995 as Crawlspace, releasing the single "My Ruin" on the Mortal Kombat: More Kombat recording. Shortly thereafter, the group changed its name to Sevendust and released a self-titled debut in 1997. Two years later, the bandmates issued the gold-selling Home and played over 800 shows alongside such groups as Creed, along with a stop at Woodstock '99. Their angst-ridden third album, the aptly titled Animosity, appeared in fall 2001, and Seasons followed in 2003.

In late December 2004, word surfaced that Lowery had left the band, and those rumors proved true the following February when Sevendust announced ex-Snot guitarist Sonny Mayo as Lowery's replacement. (Lowery, a co-founder of Sevendust, eventually surfaced in the hard rock supergroup Dark New Day.) Next, Sevendust's fifth album and their first self-produced effort, appeared in October 2005. The record failed to sell as much as its predecessors, but Sevendust nevertheless signed to Asylum Records and issued Alpha in March 2007. Alpha fared better than Next, climbing to number 14 on the Billboard charts and paving the way for the band's seventh effort. Chapter VII: Hope and Sorrow arrived in April 2008, featuring an appearance by former American Idol star Chris Daughtry, followed by Cold Day Memory in 2010. ~ Kirk Dombek, Rovi

Yeah, tainted John's band is kind of a lame Slayer ripoff
Tainted John your band is pretty lame! Sorry you asked..
I used to see these guys all of the time when I lived in ATL. They were really nice and humble on top of being great performers.
kellyco1
7D is amazing - I saw them for the first time on Shiprocked 2011 (AND they are truly the nicest bunch of guys) and can't wait to hang with them again on this year on Shiprocked 12!! Book now - there are still cabins available! GETShiprocke d . c o m (use me as a referral! Kelly Codner)
I never listened to these guys much until a few months ago and now they are one of my favorites. The singer is reallly good.
Sevendust is one of the most underrated bands I've ever heard and it's a shame these guys are not more popular. They are amazing with Lajon's vocals, drums, and heavy guitar riffs. I never get tired listening to these guys!
Been listening to 7D since i started hanging with my Uncle back in 01, i was 6... still rockin to this day. Seen them live about 6 times now, and i cant wait untill they go back into the studio like they said they would in june!!!! so pumped!!!

Been Rocking out to Seven dust for half my life now haha hard to believe I heard home in 97 or 98, they are one of the few to lose no steam at all over this much time. See them live same with Disturbed, you will not regret it.
simonj1980
I remember buying there first album in highschool. They've been one of my favorites for years.
Sevendust is and has been my favorite band since the Animosity release. The harmonies and melodic chorus's highlight the bone crunching riffs and constant rythmic assault this band has to deliver! Have seen them live several times and always amazed how good they are live. This is a Seasoned touring band and if you EVER get the chance to be a part of that by all means GO TO THE SHOW!
I agree with crevans. I have seen them several times in small venues and they rocked the house(the Knit in Reno baby). Saw them with Korn and Disturbed at Hard Rock in Vegas and I have to say they put on as good as or better a show as both. Sound is clear and loud. Good s**t.
curtis.holbe r t
LaJon is my cousin...
crevans17
Best live band I've ever seen. And that's saying something since I just saw SOAD in ABQ a few months ago.
F**K ALL YOU HATERS WHO THINK SEVENDUST SUCKS. THEY ROCK THE HOUSE!!!!!!! ! >.> F**K YEAH
reps_jay
Saw em in ATL at the Tab last summer! It was epic. There were bad storms that night and no one knew because Sevendust rocked so hard you couldn't even hear the thunder outside. They brought the house down!
I never saw them until one of thier performances with Disturbed and Korn and the Music as a Weapon show........ . . F**KING AWESOME
@cherie1222: they were a better band to see live when he had those long dreads head banging!
good live band
Best band to EVER see live!!!
j30franklin
starting listening in 1998. have seen them twice. freaking rock
onegoldengir l
Lajon has such an incredible voice. One of the best.
jeffharmon70
It's a damn shame that these guys now perform in small country town venues.
k now ive heard more of their stuff and they are climbing my list of favorite bands fast they f**king rock
i havnt heard alot of there stuff so far but what i have heard rocked count me as a fan
chrisnagle70
I listened to their first c.d. for 3 months straight, when I first got it
marianne_owe n s
@Conor, saying music is contradictor y is contradictor y to music. There's no rules in music unless you like that pop crap!
yes. there are a lot of bands like 7dust out there...but 7dust does it (music)bette r .
I think Seven Dust is a dam good band. Those are some talented guys !
all the similar artists suck bad
Come back to OKC please!
its kinda weird how Sevendust goes from intense angry strong music to melodic stuff but i guess that's okay just a little contradictor y
Fairly good band but blew my brains in concert.
@skonjie ... Slayer=poser metal.... slayers fast, thats all.
Who is sevendust?
get it how ever u can!
The article doesn't mention that Clint Lowery returned and has been back with them since Hope & Sorrow. These guys are amazing live.

new album is beast but NEXT is still the best album
I respect your opinion Tainted John but a rip-off band?..C'mon . . I like the early LOA stuff but on Caputo's best day he is not 1/10 of the singer Lajon is and as a drummer myself I have nothing but respect for Sal but I have attended NAMM jams where Morgan is playing alongside other legendary skinsmen and the guy is always a standout. His style and control is unbelievable . S o yes, I can accept your opinion but 7Dust is far superior to LOA so ripping them off would actually be a step backwards IMHO.
cold day memory may just be the best 7d album yet! good work fellas!
Great show last night at First Avenue. Nov 5 2010.
Love 7Dust! 4 sure 1 of my fave bands of the last decade! And im gonna see them with 10 Years this coming wednesday! Can't wait!
I just saw Sevendust and 5 finger Death Punch last saturday in Kansas City and it was a pretty brutal show!
When I first heard these guys I thought it was a new Life of Agony single. So that left a bad taste in my mouth and always considered these guys a Life of Agony rip off band. just my opinion
good band
not bad for a black guy in metal quite unuseal
gotfunk446
Ya..if you didn't keep tabs on Sevendust after their first album you have missed out on some seriously awesome albums! THey've yet to make an album that was so-so or dull. Oh and live their a blast too--saw them in a smaller club in Champaign Illinois as they were getting ready to record Cold Day Memory--lots of fun and met them afterwards-- v e r y nice group of guys.
Just found out the other day that Sevendust Guitarist Clint Lowery will be co-producing Ill Nino's new album 'Dead New World' which hits shelves in a few weeks.Should be interesting. I l l Nino coming off of one of their best albums IMO in 'Enigma' which is also their worst selling album moving in the neighborhood of only 1600 copies in it's first week of release back in '08 And Lowery fresh from rejoining Sevendust and creating a masterpiece in'Cold Day Memory'.Cann o t wait to hear the final result
this is great stuff. we would really get down to it at bible camp last summer.
7D please come back to Okla City. This band is still alive and kicking!
