The Silencers

Scottish singer/songwriter and producer Jimmie O'Neal first appeared in the late '70s with Fingerprintz, an eclectic band that recorded for Virgin from 1979 to 1981 and also released an album for Stiff. O'Neal produced and co-wrote much of Jacqui Brookes' 1984 LP Sob Stories, and then formed the Silencers in 1986 with guitarist Cha Burns (also a graduate of Fingerprintz), plus bassist Joe Donnelly and drummer Martin Hanlin. Signed to RCA, the group debuted in 1987 with A Letter From St. Paul. The Silencers hit the charts during 1988-1989 with two modest British hits, "Painted Moon" and "Scottish Rain," and recorded A Blues for Buddha and Dance to the Holy Man. ~ John Bush, Rovi

There music was played briefly in the DC metro area in 80's on WHFS. Boy do I miss hearing their music on the radio.
Only REAL band named Silencers is this one from Scotland. Blues for Buddha was one of the best albums of the late 80s
Here is a new link to Dennis Takos' site. DT was the keyboard player.

The video, plus others are there.
Actually, the original Silencers were formed in Pittsburgh, PA back in 1980!! Rock'nRoll Enforcers, recorded before they ever even played live. They were one of the featured bands the day MTV started showing videos. You can still see it on YouTube some times. "Theme from Peter Gunn/Remote Control/Ille g a l "

Great band!
Great band, great album with Dance To The Holy Man. My fave of the 3.
agreed. Policeman b y the silencers was the only song ever recorded by that that version of the silencers, most likely due to the fact that there was already a band by that name.Lineup is as follows.Tim Armstrong-vo c a l s , G u i t a r / Vic Ruggiero-Ham m o n d B-3 Organ/ Wix- Bass/ Lars Frederickson - Backing Vocals, Guitar/ Josh Freeze-Drums / Brett Gurrewitz- Backing Vocals and $$. Vic- Slackers and Rocksteady Seven, etc...Wix- Swingin' Utters, on and on and on
again... two bands named the Silencers. One fronted by tim armstrong of Rancid and backed by various artists on hellcat records, the bio above is not the silencers I am listening to.
