Skream

Ollie Jones had the good fortune to be working at the Big Apple record store when he first started making beats at age 15 and armed with a cracked copy of the Fruity Loops music-making software. Big Apple was at the center of the early development of U.K. garage's dark, half-speed offshoot dubstep before it was even called dubstep, and it was at Big Apple that Jones, who recorded as Skream, met fellow beatsmiths Benga and Hatcha. Hatcha was a DJ at the seminal club Forward and was only too happy to debut the dubplates of both Skream and Benga's early recordings. Their music took the tension and release formula of dance music, removed the release and layered in more tension instead. With slow and pounding basslines and wobbly treble they were creating a kind of music that summoned and summed up feelings of urban paranoia, but in an enjoyable way. Emphasizing the sub-bass made them popular with clubbers, but they were also popular with bloggers. Championed and spread by word of mouth on the Internet Skream went straight from being a name in Croydon to being known around the world. When the owner of Big Apple founded a label to give a home to the albums of dubstep artists, Skream was one of those who released material on it, including his breakout classic track "Midnight Request Line." His first full-length album, Skream!, was released in 2006 on the Tempa label. ~ Jody Macgregor, Rovi

OOH! if you like woo boost peep Rocksonix: Skank Tank
@ George. plus i still say its an aquired taste. but, thinking about it that may be because its a genre filled with crap as well as gold. diamonds in the rough kinda thing. i say that alot. if your looking up dubstep for the first time.. you can hit up like 24 HORRIBLE tracks in a row, which would scare off most people who would then claim to "hate dubstep" when they just havent found the good stuff. in reality-this is true in EVERY GENRE
hah! awesome. love woo boost too. i have to say that song you are right.. i was waiting for something like that too. It was Benga's track Transformers that got me into the genre. i think rusko found that certain "sound". its juuuuust accessible enough for someone who says they "dont like" it to give it a second chance. i dunno.. if you dont like gritty laser-blasti n g keytar riffs..you need to givem a second chance. who doesnt like super-obtuse these days?! dance to those omitted beats baby!!
krusafer
@ George: Woo boost was the song that got me hooked too!! Its such a sick song. when you mix trance with psychedelic rock with dubstep, in my opinion, you can't go wrong.
awesome!
what seems so ironic to me is that this style and genre has been popular in the local underground scene for some time now...Dig it though!!!
@James, gotta disagree RE acquired taste. Took me a single track to find out that this was the genre I've been waiting for (that track was Woo Boost - Rusko - OMG!). The same goes for my cousin who was also an electronica/ t e c h n o fan. Single track to get her hooked. Same for a buddy. But I'll agree - see it live. Nothing compares!!!

"The views expressed here are mine and do not reflect the official opinion of my employer or the organization through which the Internet was accessed."
dubstep as a genre is the greatest. but..u gotta "get it" to "get it". i will call it an acquired taste for lack of better words.
once your in.. your in. if you like dubstep on pandora SEE IT LIVE.!!!!!!!

I've been listening to Dub Step Radio on Pandora all week and the beats that consistently make me look up and go "WTF is this sickness?" are Skream beats.
