This Pittsburgh vocal group made a magnificent heartache ballad in 1959, "Since I Don't Have You." It remains among R&B's ultimate agonizing triumphs, and Chuck Jackson later did an equally gripping version. Jimmy Beaumont was the lead vocalist, with Janet Vogel, Wally Lester, Joe VerScharen, and Jackie Taylor. Beaumont, Taylor, and Lester had been in the Crescents, while Vogel and VerScharen were alumni of the El Rios. Their follow-up, "This I Swear," was a creditable effort that peaked at number 20 on the R&B charts, but few remember it. Oddly, "Since I Don't Have You" only reached number three on the R&B side and number 12 on the pop charts. But it's certainly one song for whom the numbers really don't come close to telling the story. The Skyliners had two chart singles on Callico and then had one other song reach the R&B Top 40 in 1965, "The Loser," for Jubilee. ~ Ron Wynn, Rovi
BEAUTIFUL ERA THE 50's/60's, NICE TO SEE SO MANY PEOPLE ENJOYING THESE MEMORIES OF YESTERYEAR..

1960’s Bergenfield, N.J. Friday night summer dances in the un-air conditioned, steamy, VFW hall. Complete with the sweet smell of Woolworth’s five and dime cheap perfume and Juicy fruit gum, dancing slow so close with raw and exciting male teenage passions.
When I was in 1st and 2nd grade in Pgh, Janet was among a group of girls who walked me to school. Even after The Skyliners became popular, when I'd see her in town she would always stop and talk to me. She died way too young and it still makes me sad..

Back in the time when "This I Swear" was a hit,I visioned that it could be my wedding song. I had the perfect girl at the time but things didn't work out. Fast forward about 40 years. She and I met again and were married. In 2008, we were at the Paramount in Seattle for a Doo Wop show and we saw the Skyliners perform and heard them sing "This I Swear" while we held hands...
