The Slackers

One of the most notable bands to emerge out of the New York City ska revival scene of the 1990s, the Slackers is comprised of vocalist Marq Lyn, vocalist/keyboardist Vic Ruggerio, guitarist T.J. Scanlon, bassist Marcus Geard, saxophonist David Hillyard, trumpeter Jeremy Mushlin, trombonist Glen Pine, and drummer Luis Zuluaga. After beginning their career in 1991 playing rocksteady and ska in the 2-Tone vein, the Slackers moved toward a more traditional style, even adding a horn section in 1994. They issued their debut LP, Better Late Than Never, in 1996, followed a year later by Redlight. The group resurfaced in 1998 with The Question; Live at Ernesto's appeared two years later; Wasted Days, which featured a cover of Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive," surfaced in early 2001. Two years later, the Slackers released Close My Eyes, the band's harsh reaction to the events of 9/11 and a reflection of what followed. With that and the band's own personal responsibilities to their families, Close My Eyes highlighted a more mature approach from the Slackers. The International War Criminal EP and the Japan-only Slack in Japan preceded the 2006 release of Peculiar. ~ Jason Ankeny

Saw them at the masquerade in ATL the last show they will play there. It was memorable and they have a presence that I've never felt at any other show. Best band on earth. PERIOD better live than on their recordings. True musicianship

Make Me Smile. Great song! I have had some epic fun to this song and this band. Most of it alas cannot be shared if I ever hope to make it to the senate. I inhaled.

Saw them play an AMAZING set last night at the Crowbar in Ybor, FL! Two hour show, 2 encores and a cover of "Attitude" by The Misfits! {which you can tell by my name makes me stoked!}

Oh and to President Willow...you want Godsmack to be the official band of Pandora? THAT'S GROSS!! OH, AND GODSMACK IS NOT A METAL BAND!!!....G O D S M A C K DIED IN THE 90's TOO!! {at least Ska is good!} Comment on your own lame "NU"-metal s**t and leave the Slackers alone!

I lost track of how many times I've seen these guys live, but the very first time was at the Fireside Bowl in Chicago, back when the bowling alley was pretty much used for shows only. We paid like 5 bucks to see 4 or 5 bands, it was awesome. The only CD that was out at that time was the Better Late than Never CD, that was all I needed. I never looked back......lo v e d these guys since!

ska, punk & reggae with soul vocals-all it needs it to be wrapped with a bow!

I know next to nothing about Ska but I know a great band when I hear one. The song compositions are top notch and the lyrics are great!

I consider these guys 4th wave ska, but they are pretty hot, along with the Hillyard Rocksteady 7.

yeah they seem to have a good connection to the roots of ska and rocksteady. Saw them live in 2006 in Wilmington NC at Lucky's -- small venue and tightly packed. Lots of energy. Amazing musicians and showmen. If you love ska and rocksteady you will love the Slackers live.

The Slackers used to play at Cafe Metropolis in Wilkes-Barre PA at least twice a year. I think I saw them the first time in 2002 maybe. Those were the best shows goin. 400 people were stuffed into a joint with a capacity of like 200.

Good times all around
