This German black metal band's early lineup consisted of Tom Angelripper (bass/vocals), Aggressor (guitar/vocals), and Chris "Witchhunter" Dudek (drums). They were heavily influenced by thrash/speed metal bands like Motörhead, Venom, and Mercyful Fate, exploring the darkest subject matter possible. Aggressor quit the group before its first full-length album was released and was succeeded in turn by Grave Violator, Destructor, and Blackfire. Mortal Way of Life, recorded on a European tour, was the first ever double live thrash album. The group opened for Sepultura on that band's breakthrough European tour, and Michael Hoffman joined the group when Blackfire left for Kreator. Code Red followed in 1999 and Marooned was issued in fall 2000. M-16 followed in 2001, and the live One Night in Bangkok in 2003. Sodom's lineup continued to change with Angelripper remaining as the sole founding member. Nonetheless, they soldiered on and reentered the studio in 2005, which resulted in 2006's self-titled offering. In 2007, Sodom released Final Sign of Evil, a collection of re-recordings of older songs. A remastered version of Agent Orange, a critical highlight and top-seller among German thrash albums originally issued in 1989, was released in 2010. Witchhunter died of liver failure in September 2008. In addition to Angelripper, the Sodom lineup circa 2010 featured guitarist Bernd "Bernemann" Kost and drummer Konrad "Bobby" Schottkowski. ~ Steve Huey & Thom Jurek, Rovi
Sodom didn't ever play black metal in the modern Burzum sense, or even in the 1st wave Bathory or Hellhammer sense, but their early works were still influential on the genre, with such musicians as Euronymous praising them.
m-16 is pretty smokin! why is german thrash the best ?
elricl0rd
where's tapping the vein, live in bagnkok, or marooned? get more material up pandora. P.s. the drummer left the band because him and tom weren't getting along
The cadaver, I couldn't Agree with you more. I recently got castigated by slamming on Slayer. They Suck. They aren't what they used to be. Dito on Death (hugely underated). Can't agree on Megadeth though.
Man, this Willow kid is all over the threads baggin' on every badass band... It's pretty obvious that he likes these bands. It's also obvious that he has nothing better to do than to flame threads...
I think he needs a job, or a girlfriend, or a life in general.
Metallica sold out so badly that they should be disowned by all thrash fans. Don't get me wrong, their first three albums were stellar, especially for the music of the time. But the true innovators of brutal thrash include bands like Slayer, Sodom, Kreator, and Death.
Slayer isn't even thrash anymore sadly. Testament still rips it. I never really dug Megadeth.
does not sound like Slayer? don't know where you got that from? cadaver as much as i hate to admit it but metallica and megadeth kinda set the scene for thrash, then metallica went down another road and i dont know about megadeth. but no one gives enough credit to bands like Sodom, Slayer, Testament Kreator who where in the same time period as metallica and megadeth. I'd say metallica started thrash, but bands like Sodom, Slayer, Testament Kreator are the ones who really took charge of metal.

Mr. Huey, you've done it again

Keep in mind, these are the kind of little queefs that think Metallica and Megadeth is real thrash.
