Formed in 2005 around the talents of Kristin Andreassen (vocals, harmonica, guitar, glockenspiel, tambourine), Aoife O'Donovan (voice, baritone ukulele, Wurlitzer, piano, guitar, soprano ukulele, glockenspiel) and Ruth Ungar Merenda (voice, fiddle, soprano ukulele, guitar, baritone ukulele, glockenspiel), contemporary/neo-traditional folk trio Sometymes Why came to fruition from the cradle of a handful of other bands, including Uncle Earl, the Jolly Bankers (Andreassen), Crooked Still, the Wild Band of Snee, the Wayfaring Strangers (O'Donovan) the Mammals and Jay Ungar & Molly Mason's Family Band (Merenda). Their live performance in Western Mass at a one-room church/schoo l h o u s e on a dirt farm road was the best performance I have ever seen. No microphones, just one light and three singers. Fresh watermelon was served at the intermission .
