Stabbing Westward

Vocalist Christopher Hall and keyboardist Walter Flakus met in 1985 and formed the industrial rock band Stabbing Westward in Chicago. They released an EP in 1990, and recruited guitarist Stuart Zechman, bassist Jim Sellers, and drummer David Suycott. In late 1993, Columbia issued the band's major-label debut, Ungod. Although the album wasn't a success, the group promoted it relentlessly, touring constantly and doing scores of interviews. The groundwork paid off in 1996, when the group released their second album, Wither Blister Burn & Peel. The touring and promotion had built a solid, albeit small fan base which provided the launching pad for the second record's first single, "What Do I Have to Do." The single became a Buzz Clip on MTV, and by the summer, it was a modern rock radio hit that pushed the album to gold status. Stabbing Westward received further exposure that summer when they opened several dates for the reunited Sex Pistols.

Following the success of Wither Blister Burn & Peel, Stabbing Westward spent most of 1997 in seclusion, working on their third album. That record, entitiled Darkest Days, was finally released in April 1998. However, it failed to match the sales figures of its gold-certified predecessor, and Columbia dropped the band in the spring of 2000. A year later, the band inked a deal with Koch Records and issued a self-titled release. Plans for a fifth studio effort were in the works in late 2001, however things abruptly stopped when Stabbing Westward disbanded in February the following year. Material culled from those sessions were likely to turn up on solo efforts from Hall and Kubiszewski. ~ John Bush, Rovi

One of my favorite 90's bands.Saw them 4 times and they were awesome everytime.
Saw these guys right before they broke up in chicago ... awesome outdoor street concert!
San Antonio's the a**hole of Texas.
First saw this band as an opening act back in 94 in San Antonio, TX at the Depeche Mode Exotic Tour. One of those rare opening acts that you could tell would make it.
buford_cynth i a
Stetomli I agree that album saved me
buford_cynth i a
One of the most important bands if the 90s
I I Can't help myself

Don't read this because it actually works. You will be kissed on the nearest possible Friday by the love of you life. Tomorrow will be the best day of your life. However if you don't post this you will die in 2 days. Now you've started reading so don't stop. This is so scary put this on at least 5 songs in 143 minutes. When done press f6 and your lover's name will come on the screen in big letters. This is so scary because it actually works
Rock on dudes!
Music like this is getting harder to find. They used to be my favorite band.

The Dreaming is far from a failure. They are a great band. Sometimes making great music doesn't necessarily mean your album goes gold. There are plenty of people with suck taste in this world.

Seriously, even if you're not a fan of the Dreaming you have to see Chris perform live. He's a total rock star and a super sweet guy!
The lyrics for Shame on wither, blister, burn and peel are off for the beginning of the chorus. Not good, sucky person proof read it. I am disappoint.
naenia
Christopher Hall needs to get off his but and quit the failure known as The Dreaming so Stabbing Westward can reform and produce another album. Granted, an album like Wither, Blister, Burn + Peel or Darkest Days and NOT Stabbing Westward. That album was the weakest of the 4.
marioc39
The angst in his voice is killer.. had some good lyrics.. I miss the 90's
NIN is *the best industrial group*
If you have a problem then,

blah
Have to say darkest days was the peak of their skill... Save yourself...
True Blood season 5
Chris's new band The Dreaming includes elements of SW, but also has a sound of its own. Really cool band that puts on a killer live show - definitely recommend checking them out.
pharrison26
Loved Darkest Days. Hated the 4th album.

Like this group---one of the few of the 90's, before EVERYTHING became TOTAL CRAP!
I still remember my friend telling me about this new album that I just had to hear and listening to it during our Biology class. Thanks Pammy for introducing me to Stabbing Westward and Darkest Days!
Anyone who says Darkest Days was terrible likes s**t music.
stetomli
Darkest Days was the soundtrack to my high school years. And for those who loved the 4th Album, I highly recommend Chris Hall's new band, The Dreaming.
Darkest Days was Terrible!
Saw these guys in concert shortly after their final record. Underrated band. Wither, Blister, Burn and Peel was fantastic as well as as Darkest Days.
Miss this group.
Mesmorizing sound
90's classic club song..Guitar riff grabs you and rocks it to the end ! Rest of there stuff starts wearing on you.
artful_otter
Been listening to Zeromancer lately mostly because they remind me alot of Stabbing Westward.
clintlanier
Love this band even back in high school
I used to love the sound of this guy..He still rocks in my head.. Now this reminds me of Trent Reznor in alot of ways. This is more commercial and has more hooks. Trents new stuff doesnt have many hooks at all. Thats what I appreciate about stabbing westward
I was turned onto these guys after seeing them open up for Killing Joke in the mid 90's. SW is a great band. IDK why Killing Joke is not considered a similar artist.
Stabbing Westward is just like Gravity Kills... Gayer than AIDS. Ran out of skips
The Dreaming is perhaps the most depressing anti-progres s career move ever made. I still listen to Stabbing Westward all the time. Ungod is the s**t... I'm pretty sure Filter stole that bassline.
sarcasticall y , i love how NIN is on top of the 'similar artists' list. at least these guys didnt sound so damn poppy and canned! although its kind of a disappointme n t though that Hall and his new band had to take on that emo look :p
jsousa386
Love this band!
UNGOD is the best album released by these guys!
Right up there with Ministry
This is one of my all time favorite bands
aravis92
heavy stuff
colddisregar d
wither, blister was their best album imo. darkest days was all right, a bit over produced, and ungod was good, but seemed unfinished. they hit the sweet spot with WBB&P.
grinofthecat
If you like The Dreaming you should also look into V.A.S.T if you havnt
I'd have to agree that Darkest Days is their finest work. Ungod is a close second.
meganjfrankl i n
I agree with lothster - if you like Stabbing Westward check out The Dreaming. It's great to hear Hall's voice again.
drugs played a huge role in this band's undoing. hall was more than a casual user of heroin and it began to affect his psyche as well as his voice near the end. such a shame too. seemingly infinite possibilitie s flushed for nothing. they broke up after the 106.5 End of Summer Weenie Roast in charlotte.
