Raymond Scott Radio
created by: John Brooking
October 20, 2007

Raymond Scott has a fascinating musical history (read his bio below), but is best known to the general public, mostly anonymously, for composing the music that later become the basis for much of the Warner Brothers (Bugs Bunny) cartoon soundtracks that a certain generation of Americans all know and love. That music has been quoted throughout American culture repeatedly ever since, including a new generation of cartoons (Ren and Stimpy), and rock groups Rush ("La Villa Strangiato") and They Might Be Giants ("Rhythm Section Want Ad"). (The "Monsters" theme is the middle part of his song "Powerhouse", see below.) He actually did not write that music for the cartoons; Warner Brothers bought the rights to it long after he had moved on creatively.

I added Spike Jones into this station to increase the fun factor even more. I think of him as Weird Al Yankovic's predecessor of the Big Band era.
