Snoop Dogg, born Calvin Broadus, began his rap career not long after graduating from high school in Long Beach, California. After several run-ins with the law, he turned to music as a means of escape. Soon after, one of his demo tapes landed in the hands of Dr. Dre, who was immediately drawn to Snoop's drawled rhyming style. Dre began collaborating with Snoop on various projects, including Dre's debut album, The Chronic. Snoop's own debut album, Doggystyle (released one year later), became the first debut album to enter the Billboard charts at number one, making Snoop a true gangsta rap icon.

Snoop Dogg performs live on stage at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors – alongside fellow honorees A Tribe Called Quest, Missy Elliott and WHODINI. Snoop Dogg will be honored with performances by BG, Bow Wow, Daz, T.I. and Pharrell Williams.
