The 70s would first see the birth of funk, a genre famous for its groove style and powerful beats. This would be followed up by disco, as dance music at nightclubs became popular. Unfortunately, synthpop and rap would destroy their popularity in the 80s. Disco hasn't been mainstream since, save for a few revivals here and there.
