About creating the station she says:

"I was listening to the Gothic Archies one day and was thinking what a great creepy, atmospheric sound they have without being spine-chilling or heavy screaming horror music. And I thought about how much I enjoy hearing that kind of music sometimes, the kind that kind of creeps under your skin and makes you peer nervously over your shoulder but doesn't make you run screaming from the room. I thought of "Shankhill Butchers" by The Decemberists and a lot of stuff by Tom Waits. So I decided to try to capture that feeling in a radio station. Unfortunately it turned out to be a little more difficult than I expected. I put in "Zombieland" by T-Bone Burnett, which definitely has that creepy feeling for me, but I ended up getting a lot of straight reggae based on that song since it has a reggae influence. And I put in "Misery" by Green Day, which definitely has the right tone but I guess it has enough of the punk about it that I kept getting more traditional Green Day and other punk songs. So I had to delete them as well as give thumbs down to a lot of music I generally like but that I don't think fits in the station. I've spent a lot of time thumbs up/thumbs down-ing music on this station and it's still not fine-tuned quite as much as I'd like, but it's definitely getting there. I think it's good enough to give you some goosebumps on a dark, rainy night...."
