Zoot Sims Radio
created by: dcbays
February 14, 2008

This station is named in honor of Zoot Sims, known as the consummate swinger by fellow musicians. No matter the complexity of the solo, Zoot would not lose the rhythm or his place and very, very rarely played an inappropriate phrase - or "wrong" note. The station is supposed to feature lots of small group cool jazz.
Zoot is regarded as one of the top all-time saxophonists and was one of the "cool" tenors (along with Stan Getz, et al.) to lead the West Coast cool jazz wave of the 1950's. Zoot shone most brightly in small groups, and could rise above his surroundings better than most musicians. Sims was one of the Four Brothers in Woody Herman's post-war Herd, and also played extensively in Gerry Mulligan's Concert Jazz Band in the 1960's.
