MusicForHackers - Music to mitigate the remote exploits
This station is intended to replicate the now-defunct music streaming site musicforhackers.com which went offline around 2007. musicforhackers's tagline was "soundscapes for compromising a remote host", and offered offered a spectacular selection of electronica, IDM, geek and industrial music; intermixed with soundbytes from classic "hacker" movies like Wargames. Don't worry folks, it's all tongue-in-cheek. For an archive of the old site see link <1>.
(Update in 2011: MusicforHackers.com is back, with a new owner.)
I try to focus on the same styles, and try hard to avoid the common, boring, clubby Hi-NRG TECHNO. This is post-techno, post-club, "electronic listening music" music that you can listen to at home, at the workbench, on the bike, while coding, while relaxing on the couch, etc. See link <2> for more.
Perfect for a night of coding.
The term 'hacker' refers to one who can make technology do something which it was not designed to do, as indicated by the phrase 'clever hack.' Don't confuse this with the term 'Cracker'. A *cracker* is an individual who tries to crack into computer systems illegally. A hacker is not a cracker.
