My Mom used to go see him every chance she could in Gloucester Yorktown areas of VA. She gave me a CD of his she had signed. I felt very lucky. His stuff is so beautiful and soothing. He's great live!! Dig him for sure.
I was privileged to hear him in a house concert in Macon, Ga. Absolutely mesmerizing sounds and emotions from guitars: baritone, steel, harp, and acoustic. Wonderful guitarist and person. Don't miss him if he is nearby!!
Hesh, you are probably a decent chap overall, but as a music critic you really suck. I've had the privilege of seeing Mr Bennett live and was very impressed by his talent with his instrument and ability to entertain an audience with his wit.

I had the exact response as ksparg, "the water is wide" stopped me in my tracks.

"the water is wide" on NO NET stopped me in my tracks... what a beautiful song.
I will state again: Stephen has gone ahead and made "Something" his very own. Well done, can find no fault. This comes from one who can almost narrow his favorite guitar solo down to Geo Harrison's "Something" solo.

hesh...don't let your jealousy over runneth...the guy's an obvious talent and we're lucky to be able to listen in
A little critical, there, Hesh. Maybe you've been the main artist on 10+ albums, too (one of the best is Harp Guitar, not listed here as is normal for Pandora, but understandable), and would have every right to be critical if you are better. I've heard him live about 5 times, as well as Tommy Emmanuel 4 times+, and both come across better live. I'm not too fond of most of the Beatles covers, and none of us are perfect, but I'd give the guy a break...he's really good.
Ok, I sm just listening to "Something" from the Beatles Acoustic Guitar Solos album and i gotta say, well done Steve. Probably my favorite Beatles song. Heard it covered many many times by everyone from Tony Benett to Kenny G (ok, I just threw Kenny G in for effect, but one can just imagine)and I would have to say, Stephen Benett's version is more than a cover, it's something new. Really nice. The timing on the guitar solo portion, the pause between the chord rythm and the solo line is brilliant
Steven Bennett, wow He's a finger man on steroids. Love his style and talent.

I think this is cosmic, Tommy Emmanuel, Don Ross, Atoine Dufour, Steve Bennett,Andy Mckee,Chet Atkins...all in the "cosmic" category (not of this planet). Wonderful, exciting, energetic, acoustic playing we all strive to emulate and steal from...
My favorite fingerstyle guitarist is Don Ross. Stephen Bennett is no Don Ross, but his music is great. Totally different- very contemplative, good amount of energy, perfect for driving or doing stuff around the house.
His chord melody skills are great. His skills are great period. He's a great player but his overall sound a little vanilla for me. On my acoustic guitar station I never give him a thumbs down, but I often give it a fast forward. Mine is a station built on the likes of Pierre Bensusan, Phil Keaggy, Laurence Juber, Michael Hedges, Andy Mckee and Adrian Legg. Solo acoustic guitar does not need to be translated as: Sonic Wallpaper
