The Stills

The Stills only bore scant similarities to Interpol, but like those suit-wearing New Yorkers, the Stills launched their career with a stately post-punk sound inspired by the likes of Echo & the Bunnymen and Joy Division. Having known one another since the age of 12, the band's founding members -- vocalist Tim Fletcher, drummer Dave Hamelin, guitarist Greg Paquet, and bassist Oliver Crowe -- played in various bands before forming the Stills in 2000. Two years later, they temporarily left their native Montreal for a two-month stay in New York City, where they recorded songs with a four-track recorder and pursued a record deal. An offer from Vice Recordings followed before the year's end; however, joint shows with the Music, the Rapture, the Streets, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs were what cemented the Stills a temporary spot among the city's ever-changing indie rock scene.

The Rememberese EP appeared in June 2003, and stateside dates with Interpol followed that fall. Logic Will Break Your Heart marked the Stills' full-length debut in October, and the band spent time touring the U.K. and North America before heading into the studio to record a second album in late 2004. Founding member Greg Paquet announced his departure from the lineup the following year, and drummer Dave Hamelin responded to the change by switching roles and filling Paquet's spot on guitar. Touring keyboardist Liam O'Neil and Sea Ray drummer Colin Brooks were also added to the lineup. The resulting Without Feathers, released in 2006, was something of a departure for the group, relying less on new wave and post-punk and more on rootsy, '70s heartland rock (Hamelin also became the band's co-frontman, sharing vocal duties with Fletcher). 2008's Oceans Will Rise saw the Stills stretching their boundaries even further, this time incorporating sonic experimentalism and uplifting, anthemic rock into their sound. The evolution stopped there, however, with the band announcing its decision to split up on April 15, 2011. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, Rovi

Logic Will Break Your Heart is a gorgeous album start to finish. It's a shame the follow up albums didn'y follow suite. Bigger shame is they've broken up.
Word salad is like NOT NEW?!! This was a let down. after just hearing Give Me Some Slack by The Cars this is a way heard this done better by too many others before MAJOR DOWNER! Long live Morrisey & Joy Division. Oh where has all the real angst gone. Time machine setting... 1979-88....S I G H !
Word salad! Excellent phrase - I hope you don't mind if I borrow it. It's always nice to run across bands who don't use that kind of chicanery to disguise poor songwriting.

Doesn't sound that much like Interpol to me. These guys can actually write lyrics! Not just word salad assortments.
Gwleon6, best option is to get a Droid or Iphone and use the Pandora app to get Pandora radio in your car. Second best option is to get XM radio.
Talented author who wrote this Biography!! Thanks.

Spectacular band. They deserve much more play than they get. What I wouldn't give for a local radio station that played stuff like this. I'm stuck with Lynrd Skynrd and AC/DC. (insert characters for frowny face)
i love this f**kin album, great lyrics, sonic virtuosity and themes!
Vocals sound similar to Switchfoot.
They sure sound and look like every other new band out there to me. YAWN.
I think they sound more like some of The Autumns earlier stuff, especially Yesterday never tomorrows.
Shame on you, to whoever tagged The Stills "sounding a lot like Interpol" when they sound nothing alike.

"the Stills are nothing like Interpol"

Interpol"

Uhhh
They r pretty good :) Yeah they are so well alike to the Interpol lol
The stills aren't here to mess around.
If The Stills are "nothing like Interpol", how come when I created The Stills Radio, the first band they played (after The Stills), was Interpol? I like the Stills though, some of lots of good stuff coming out of The Montreal scene.

I friggin' love the stills. Destroyer is my favorite song ever. ^^
good stuff
I like these guys, kind of. the voice, mostly. I like "in the beginning"s lyrics, "where did this start? how did we begin? in a ball of fire, and stars and suns"
but yes, for the most part boring. I Will Destroy You.
