Strength in Numbers was an all-star side project comprised of Sam Bush (fiddle/mandolin), Jerry Douglas (dobro), Béla Fleck (guitar/banjo), Mark O'Connor (fiddle/guitar/mandolin), and Edgar Meyer (bass). The artists were familiar with one another, having performed in the same circles for years, as well as on the same stage -- in numerous incarnations -- at the annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Strength in Numbers grew out of appearances by the group as sort of the de facto house band at the Colorado festival; Telluride Sessions, its only album, documented the easygoing newgrass fusion that Strength in Numbers would often perform there. Accomplished bluegrass musicians all, the members of Strength in Numbers were also steeped in the jazz and classical traditions, which found their way into the arrangements on Telluride Sessions. Most of the bandmembers said there would never be another Strength in Numbers album after the first. But since each musician continued to play on the others' albums and appear at festivals such as Telluride, the potential for more genius was there. ~ Johnny Loftus, Rovi
New to Pandora and kind of kicking myself for creating stations for each of these masters when I could have just used this as the center for a station that will pull magic from all of their music.
The only thing I own that compares is O'Connor's 30 Year Retrospective double CD with Chris Thile and Bryan Sutton. 30 years worth of O'Connor's songs, played live, a million notes and not one of them wrong.
Still...nothing that lacks JD and Edgar Myer can be the best, can it?

I have had the Strength In Numbers album for so many years now and I still fell like it is the most fantastic instrumental ever recorded every time I listen to any one of the cuts. Thanks Pandora!
The single Strength In Numbers album may not be possible to duplicate. It is such an album of creativity, originality, and instrumental perfection that genius doesn't quite suffice as a descriptive word. You can listen to this album thousands of times and always find something new. I agree with Jon Zatkin; it I were allowed to possess only one album, this would have to be the one, without a second thought.
I've listened and bought some of the collaborations/albums by these musicians and it's only NOW I hear this track?! Granted it came out when I was a baby, but this is STILL some awesome music!
its amazing what can be done by a group of masters in their own trade when they realy go at it..this is an amazing example of masters of their own craft
This album is the epitome of great newgrass/jazzgrass! None finer anywhere, except Bela's album "Drive", which is also performed by a super-group, including Tony Rice. Amazing!
This the stuff that I love. It, in my opinion, represents the pinacle of flatpisking I don't care what instruments guitar, mandolin, dobro, fiddle, banjo all are great hell, go ahead and include steel guitar this beautiful. Good Work!!
world class musicians, writing some very laid back yet intense/complex arrangements.....I always hoped that another "Session" might happen....
all of these players are superb, but the magic when they record together makes it way bigger than the sum of the parts.....
this was the soundtrack for my wedding reception, and almost everyone guest came and asked who the band was, and wanted a copy.....
and it is some of the best road music of all times!

One of the favorites in my new and growing bluegrass/newgrass collection.
Every tune on this CD is well worth listening to and really portrays the excellent musicianship of these gods of progressive bluegrass. A must buy for the serious bluegrass affecianado. Can't help but shut your eyes and be taken away by any of these cuts.
The first CD I ever bought, I was in the 7th grade.Basically taught myself how
to play outside of basic blues structures by jammin' along with this CD.I still
have the original copy-it's like magic,it absolutely won't stop playing.
