Suffocation

Death metal band Suffocation was formed in New York in the early '90s, comprising vocalist Frank Mullen, guitarists Doug Cerrito and Terrance Hobbs, bassist Chris Richards, and drummer Mike Smith. The group's 1991 debut album, Effigy of the Forgotten, became quite influential in the grind/death metal community. Released on Roadrunner Records, it was followed two years later by Breeding of the Spawn. After the issue of the Human Waste EP, Smith left Suffocation and was replaced by drummer Doug Bohn. By 1995, the second lineup had released their first album, Pierced from Within. The band broke up soon after, disheartened by label problems and lack of direction. A mystery album, Despise the Sun, floated around due to record label politics until Relapse finally released it in the summer of 2002. The band re-formed in 2003 and began working on their fourth studio album. The resulting Souls to Deny, which marked the return of original drummer Mike Smith, was released the following year, and effectively ended the group's six-year hiatus. Suffocation's eponymous fifth outing arrived in 2006, and was followed in 2009 by Blood Oath, which marked the band's first official entry in the Billboard charts. Pinnacle of Bedlam, the group's seventh studio album, arrived in 2013. ~ John Bush

There's people who claim to be down with the lord, but in fact, they are not down with the divine, so people attack the church thinking it's this big industry responsible for bad deeds and rebel with this type of music against God , mostly trying to be kooh etc... I can go on and on ...

SUFFOCATION! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Report as inappropriate
Suffocation undoubtedly deserves their hard-earned place amongst the founding fathers of the modern death metal sound. That being said- maybe it's me getting older or maybe the overall scene is getting so much better but it seems like their later stuff was suffering a bit? I've been a fan since Pierced from Within and only have good things to say but… I wish they kept with the times a bit more. Still a great band though.

@jlcrowe84. Wow. For someone who listens to metal, you are quite the p u s s y a s s douche. Do you sit and search peoples comments so then you can go add your pathetic garbage? Get a life. Stay off of here you sensitive little b i t c h. I can say whatever the f u c k I so choose. I have not directed my comments at one single person except for right now being you.

oh man such hate i thought the 80s and 90s were done with music hate if its not your cup of tea dont make everyone miserable as you are about it i think a lot of metal genres are great idc if its deathcore metalcore Nu-Metal grindcore thrash metal hardcore crossover its still metal in my book i even love grunge but idc if any of ya bash on me cuz music runs in my veins and nothing will stop that till the day i die long live metal in all genres

I was just a kid when it was all getting started but all i knew growing up was f**king metal. whats f**king stupid f**ked up, people started thinking Morbid Angel sold out signing to Geffen but now claim those albums are classic. there is always gonna be new s**t coming out basket case. i like Emmure and The Accacia Strain for names that you'll probably recognize if you've peeked your head out the window in the last many years. you should show these types of new bands the same respect

piece of junk bet you were in diapers. meet NECROWX basketcase. 84 b**ch year i got into music, by the 90's i had seen what you claim we havn't. it's a shame kids now didn't have a chance to witness PANTERA. i saw a lot of bands that you'd think were cool. and seen a lot of shows you talk of the time. your an idiot. right about being original because of Mike Smith's drum style. blast beat, he perfected with they're music well. that's all.
