From their origins as Prince's first pet project to their self-produced funk-rock oeuvre, the Time has been a fascinating and outrageous congregation. Vocalist Morris Day infused his cocky, swaggering personality into dance hits that would make Rufus Thomas envious, and, unlike most of the competition, the band managed to do something unique with Prince's genre-busting innovations. The Time broke up in the late '80s, with Day going on to a somewhat disastrous solo career, Jesse Johnson crafting two dazzling solo albums, and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis becoming one of the most successful production teams this side of Gamble & Huff, working with everyone from Full Force and Janet Jackson to the S.O.S. Band and Human League. The group re-formed in 1990 and released the excellent Pandemonium. ~ John Floyd, Rovi

Buy the new CD The Original 7 (Prince wouldn't let them use the name The Time) it comes with a biographical DVD about the band by the band and it flows just like the old stuff! Best CD I've purchased in a while!
I love The Time, especially at this time when this album came out. I remember buying it and playing it to death!

I saw The Time with Cameo and they blew Cameo out!!! I was sitting about 4 feet from Jerome!! It was so cool. They are really good in concert. They still got it!
With all the talent this band was all about Prince. If u look on most of the credits it always says written and produced by Jamie Starr which was prince's alter ego. On a lot of the records u can hear him in the background.
Iagree with most when they say this could have been one of the baddest groups ever. Just think how much talent was in this band. Morris Day wasn't even the lead singer it was Alexander O'neal when they first started , Morris was on drums. Alex and Prince got into it and out the group Alex went. Lord knows we wish they could have lasted longer.

This could have been one oft the baddest bands of all time if PRINCE didn't act like a**hole and fire JIMMY JAM and TERRY LEWIS.
Morris Day had 2 successful albums, not Jesse Johnson. Morris Day had more hits than Jesse. This band had so much talent. Monte Moir the white boy had a hit with Janet Jackson called the pleasure principle. The Time is truly my favorite band.

Sandra Cooper...This song is the bomb.I remember being a freshman in college back them, and the fun we had at those toga parties.

Wahahahaha! I remember playing "What time is it?" over and over again on my mom's record player.
The drums and bass line got to be one of the illest of all time. This is favorite Time song without a doubt. Growing up it was this or lady cabdriver bumping in the morning when I was getting ready for school.
I saw them in concert with Prince 2 times and they were the opening act and could have easily have been the Headliner. These were some talented brothers. Love 'em. Saw them about 6 years ago and they were still grooving. They are coming to the bay area next weekend and I'm going to go see them.
