I agree with gsjr1958(bel o w ) - m u s i c of decades past focused on what was important - the MELODY.17-19 t h century composers' melodies are rich, just gorgeous. But things evolve, so with music;organi s m s evolve to survive, whereas music evolves in many other directions.P o p u l a r music evolved in the latter half of the 1900's to emphasize RHYTHM; rap (ugh) is little melody, lots of rhythm. There is still melodious rock, but admittedly, it is often lost in the drivel of what is now called popular music.

Good, good music : )

My Uncle Phil Stephens played bass during the time that Sinatra was with the orchestra. The best music was written and performed in the 30's-50's in my opinion.

I grew up in the 40's and the music at that time was melodious. The music today, as far as I'm concern is trash. I call rock music RAGE music for it describes how people feel. You hear a song on the radio today and is forgotten the next hour, but the great standards of the 30's and 40's will live on. This was the era of great song writers as well.

There is no music as good as big band and Dorsey was the best in his class

Dorsey? The best trombone ever! His technique was the envy of anyone who tried to play a trombone. And he could outdo Jack Teagarden playing "dirty" jazz.
