Arnaldo Antunes, Carlinhos Brown, and Marisa Monte -- three noted Brazilian pop artists -- formed Tribalistas and released a self-titled album in 2003. Mostly acoustic, with splashes of electronics, Tribalistas centered mainly around Monte's vocals while remaining loosely tied to the trio's Brazilian roots. The album generated a handful of Latin Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Brazilian Contemporary Pop Album, and Best Brazilian Song (Portuguese Language). ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
Marisa Monte was in Tribalistas and has her own solo career. I have nearly all her CD's and they are all consistently terrific. She along with Gal Costa are my favorite Brazilian musicians. Monte's albums are very melodic with beautiful melodies and layers of superb instrumentation, and her lyrics are thoughtful, often about social justice as well as love. She has a great song about the poor children without parents living on the streets. She is a must listen if you get into Brazilian music.
These three are just amazing together. Although some would describe them as "The Brains", "The Beauty" and "The Brawn"... I believe they each possess all of these qualities. How else would they be so in sync? Brown and Monte are super delicious while Antunes is simply an enigma. I just wanna crack that shell wide open. Alas, it's the beautiful ones who never know how beautiful they are. He just needs to keep bringin' it! FC
