@michal.rudzki9 Amon Amarth is not nearly as good as this band. Joensen is a great singer and TYR's albums belong in mainstream record stores at least as much as Amon Amarth. If brick and mortars (Best Buy, for example) were still relevant to music sales, I bet AA would sell more. And as far as death growls go, check out Eluveitie, Ensiferum, and Wintersun for death growls and songwriting talent, something Amon Amarth lacks.
Hey! White guys who aren't p***ies or coke-sniffing, gold-chain wearing guidos? How weird and awesome! *The above statement is intended to be swallowed with a heavy dose of irony. Don't get yr panties in a bunch.
@liquidskills. Some tracks of this album and most of the previous album (by the light of the northern star) of Tyr could be Amon Amarth after one really heavy concert and the singer can't manage his raspy death growls.
Pandora says that this band is similar to Falkenbach, Cruachan, Mithotyn, and Amon Amarth. Do you think this is true? I never heard Mithotyn, but I don't think this band in similar to the other three save for it's Metal with Folk over (or under)tunes. Anyone else think that?

YES! Finally the newest album is on Pandora! (The Lay Of Thrym)

Hell yeah that show was sick! I chilled with them in Raleigh as well after a show.
Awesome band! They are really cool guys as well. Drank some with them after a show bout a year ago. Tyr and Amon Amarth in one night, f**king epic night.
Currently my favorite band. I've seen them play live, and they were great. The Eric the Red album that Pandora has is more of a progressive rock sound than say By the Light of the Northern Star (which Pandora REALLY needs to add) but both are awesome.
Navnlos - One of the reasons Pandora matches Tyr with the similar artists on the list is based more heavily on the musical structure of the music in it's library.
I'd say what I've heard of the Pandora catalog is very similar to Falkenbach or Hammerfall, though I wouldn't normally group them with either if I wanted a "Viking Metal" station.
Similarly, Land and LOtNS are much more like AA in sound than either EtR, or Ragnarok.
Interesting rune reading in their name? Journey, Protection (Reversed) and Warrior. Heh heh! A name, a reading, a guidance and a pun all in one neat and tidy package. Great music, too! Vikings always did have an excellent sense of humor, after all?
@Surt: So you're saying they sound chaotic, like the music is getting pulled from too many directions? I will have to listen closer and see if I can identify with that.
I'm not very good with musical terminology, and I'm not sure what progressive would describe.
When I listen to TYR I get the impression they're trying to fit into a theme, but they're straying outside of it in ways that contradict that aim. Sometimes it's like they're trying to express 4 different things at once, as though each musician had their own ideas as to how their band is supposed to sound.
Of course, this could just be my own bias talking.
This band bothers me somehow from what I've heard of them. When I think about it, I think that I would like it, but when I actually hear it, I don't. There's *parts* of their songs that I like, but others I don't. It's as if it's unfocused somehow.
Pandora needs to get their s**t together and get Land and By the Light of the Northern Star on here! Soooooo awesome. Can't wait to see these guys with Korpiklaani. :D
The Similar Artists sections is so f**ked up and just wrong. Pandora can usually relate certains genres together but when it comes to folk metal or Viking metal they don't recognize the similarities between any of the bands of said genres.
Massive respect for the musicality of these guys. Much more laid back and less agressive than most folk and Viking metal bands, but that doesn't make them any less. They're one of the few folk/Viking bands that has more of a power metal influenced sound. And very progressive.
This group is amazing. Their songs are epic and so fun to listen to. It feels like metal, but it also has a very strong feel of Norsemen. If there is Viking Metal, these guys are it. I'll definitely be buying one of their albums, if not more.

I don't necessarily agree with that sentiment, but that's what Elicoor meant.
What an odd statement. How does one grow their tastes then?
