A somewhat mysterious producer from Berlin, Germany, Ulrich Schnauss debuted under his own name in 2001 with Far Away Trains Passing By. Released by City Centre Offices, the album seemingly came from nowhere and wound up on several journalists' year-end favorites lists, impressing many with a beguiling level of charm that referenced the shimmer of the Cocteau Twins and the beat mining of the Black Dog. Released in 2003, A Strangely Isolated Place, which was much closer to shoegaze than U.K. techno, was followed in 2007 by the multi-layered texturally rich indie electronica of third album Goodbye. The following years would be filled with multiple smaller projects, including multiple EP releases and remixes, as well as collaborations with A Shoreline Dream and All in the Golden Afternoon. In late 2009, Schnauss' labels Independiente and Domino sued Guns N' Roses, claiming the band had used portions of Schnauss' compositions in the track "Riad 'n the Bedouins" without permission on the album Chinese Democracy. His tendency toward collaboration continued into the 2010's with full-length works Ulrich Schnauss and Jonas Munk in 2011 and Underrated Silence, a collaborative effort with Mark Peters released in 2012. Schnauss has also had his hands in a number of other projects, including Hexaquart (minimal techno-house) and Ethereal 77 (drum'n'bass), in addition to engineering work for a number of other artists. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
And gotta agree that the comparison to Peter Gabriel is out of left field. Ulrich is a part of another genre altogether, and fits in nicely with my instrumental ambient prog-rock station that Pandora has built around El Ten Eleven. This type of music allows for more of your own inner voice while listening, rather than the voice and words of the singer. The experience is deeper, in my opinion, which probably has something to do with all the comments here.
@usul99 Well, I think that while Peter Gabriel has more listeners, Ulrich's are more active on Pandora. I love Peter Gabriel and I love Ulrich, so I'm not about to knock either of them. But I will say this: Peter Gabriel's stuff is less mellow than Ulrich's. But then again comparisons to the two are odious, since they play drastically differen styles. Ulrich goes toward creating a mellow soundscape, Peter goes for more active soundscapes. They just don't match up sonically. And they shouldn't.
I'm trying to figure out how this song has mega comments about it when some stuff that is truly great like Peter Gabriel's work has 1 or 2 comments at best. What gives? This is basic syntho ear candy- where is the substance? if you like it, I have no problem but saying this is the end all to end all... really?
Monday - Paracetamol has the ability to transport me to another place, change my mood, energize me and even serve as my very own theme song in a super hero movie where i am the super hero. It's like Ulrich was inside my mind working my neurons back into place like a billion little nano-bots. And, no, I'm not high. THANKS for the music Ulrich Schnauss!
Ulrich is amazing. A Strangely Isolated Place is my favorite.

Ulrich is awesome! Nobody's Home is such a gentle and moving song. I never tire of hearing it. Ulrich's music makes me feel better (literally) no matter what!
Einfeld has to be my favorite. Thanks to Pandora for the discovery.

Wherever You Are is the best song ever. But something that worries me... Was the Album Goodbye named as it is because it was his last one? I hope not!!
