VHS Or BETA

VHS or Beta formed in 1997 in Louisville, Kentucky, when bassist Mark Palgy and guitarists Zeke Buck and Craig Pfunder met after high school. After a brief stint with noise punk and the addition of drummer Mark Guidry, they re-formed in response to their love of house music, soul, and disco. The new sound, enhanced by keyboards, vocoder, samples, and electronic drums, eventually brought in hundreds of dancing people at their shows. Soon, the band released the vinyl-only EP ON & ON. After playing the 2000 South by Southwest music festival and negotiating with record labels, they released Le Funk on their own label, ON! Records, in June 2002. In summer 2002, VHS or Beta toured with I Am the World Trade Center. Chea Beckley was added for the band's performances to handle vocoder, samples, and keyboards. By the time the band's Astralwerks debut, Night on Fire, arrived in 2004, their sound owed more to dance-punk than Daft Punk. Over the next few years, the group hid out at Echo Mountain Studio in Asheville, North Carolina, and concentrated on writing songs with producer Brandon Mason. Buck left in 2006, just before the release of Bring on the Comets in 2007. Following the album, Pfunder and Palgy moved to New York City, leaving behind another member, Mark Guidry. The two continued as a duo, and drummer Jim Orso filled in for their follow-up, Diamonds & Death, which was released in 2011. ~ Kenyon Hopkin, Rovi

Take it or leave it, is by far the best of their songs. Original, energetic, and catchy. Stay true.

I've enjoyed listening to them to get me in a good mood, nothing sophisticate d just good fun.
Noise punk ? How does this junk end up on my Pandora ?
I live in Louisville, I remember dancing at their shows when I was about 21-22 about 10 years ago. Love them.
Found these guys from New Wave Outpost. Great site.
"Burn it all Down" is my fav from these guys. Check it out.
Cheers
this has awesomeness written all over it. Enjoyed "Night on Fire" CD tremendously .
Euglama is one of my ring-tones. ;)
I didn't know sweet funky rock could make me J in my P. VHS!
I lived in Louisville for 7 years. A co-worker there gave me a CD of their music. I went to the Duran Duran concert in Louisville in 2005 with no clue that they would be opening. It rocked my world!! I really like Le Funk, it's more techno. And yes, I do remember BETA tapes.
I think if you come across a band that you really like they encourage you to purchase the album and not just hope for more songs to come along on Pandora. Ultimately, the entire point of Pandora is to discover music, not just to listen to one specific artist. So, if you really lilke VHS or Beta, i would go purchase their albums, or just download....
But i don't condone downloading at all, i am just saying.
i herd them a while back and thought they singer tryed to sound like robert smith from the cure...i think the song was called a night on fire
Love this lot, but wish there was more of their music listed that wasn't a 30 second bite.
i hadn't heard of these guys before they showed up in one of my stations (asian kung-fu generation), and their band name really caught my attention. i remember beta tapes. anybody else? anyway, they look really interesting. i also liked that their first album was vinyl-only.~
i met these guys, they live in louisville, ky pretty cool
AMIRITE?!?!
They should update their name to BluRay or HD-DVD.
