Although formed on the West Coast by three California-based college students, We Are Scientists officially took flight after frontman Keith Murray, bass player Chris Cain, and drummer Michael Tapper relocated to Brooklyn and began building a small, devoted following. After releasing three EPs and one independent album, the group signed with Virgin Records and releasing their major-label debut, With Love and Squalor, in early 2006. Although modestly popular in America, the album became a gold-selling hit in the U.K., where the band's sound -- part post-punk revival and part indie rock, with a touch of '80s synth-pop -- drew parallels to popular bands like the Editors, Franz Ferdinand, and the Killers.
In 2008, the group -- which was now just a duo comprising Cain and Murray -- put out their second full-length album, Brain Thrust Mastery. As before, the record found more popularity overseas, where it debuted at number 11 on the UK Albums Chart. The band toured heavily in support, playing a number of European festivals and opening shows in America for Kings of Leon. As We Are Scientists prepared to record a third album, former Razorlight drummer Andy Burrows joined the lineup, and the revised band unveiled itself with the release of 2010's Barbara. ~ James Christopher Monger & Andrew Leahey, Rovi
They are an amazing band, and yet they are not as popular as other bands. I like every song of theirs. Wish I could see them live. I agree with others, they are so underrated.

saw them open for Kings of Leon in '08. Great live! Hooked me.
Such an underrated and SUCH a good band. Their sound is so unique that I don't think Pandora can get a band that sounds close to them (sure, Arctic Monkeys, but whatever) Keith Murray has an AMAZING voice. Like, totally. I am definitely going to see these guys live whenever they... uh, tour
Beter than Kings of Leon. KOL can't seem to get beyond one set of lyrics for their songs, boring as shite. These guys make them look like amatuers.

This is such an underrated band. They're really good, very tight live sound. I saw them with Art Brut in a tiny little club and it remains one of my favorite shows ever. Probably not Keith's favorite show- he jumped off of the drums and landed teeth on the mic. His mouth was bleeding; they did the rest of the show in double time and it was still great!
out of curiosity, has anyone pointed out that their name is the title of a caP n' Jazz song? It's funny that Pandora points that out about Scary Kids Scaring Kids, but not these guys.
quintvsshark says, "...lets something as trivial as geography impact their views..." right after, "You know what else is lame? When Brits sing like yanks." Hmmmm....
At least Hana was consistent.
Oh... comment about the artist. I enjoy their music.
Why would you wish they were from Britain? If it's good, it's good. You know what else is lame? When brits sing like yanks. Oh, and when an inept soul lets something as trivial as geography impact their views on a band. Stay off Pandora if that's the type of curmudgeonliness you're going to bring.
wth isamu09. It doesn't matter where you're from. Musice is a multicultural experience that everyone can participate in. Leave your American prejudices for some loser blog site. This is music.
I wish they were from Britain too. Something about Americans trying to sing like Brits turns me of a little. That being said, I have listened to this CD 20+ times. These guys rock!
this is the first time i have listened to them but so far so good; especially since their first CD title is a reference to J.D. Salinger's "For Esme; With Love and Squalor"
they're friends with the Lonely Island guys. The ones who wrote "j**z in my pants" for SNL plus a lot of other stuff. One of them directed the video for "It's a Hit". It was pretty cool.
