The indie rock band Western Civ was formed by guitarist/singer Rich Henderson, bassist Jason Briggs, drummer Bryan Cabler, and guitarist Jason Hall in Muscle Shoals, AL, in 2005; Henderson, Briggs, and Cabler had known each other since attending high school together. They released their debut EP, Regent Kingfish Slumberpad, on the Hoosierdaddy label on November 5, 2005, and played their first live dates in 2006. They self-released their debut full-length album, Remington Steel Magnolia, in 2007. That year, Hall dropped out as a full-time member, and the remaining trio relocated to Chapel Hill, NC. (Hall continued to work with the band on occasion, as did Kemper McDowell and Ken Larson.) Mitch Easter produced the second Western Civ album, Shower the People You Love with Gold, which was released March 17, 2009. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi
