A former member of Alice Cooper's band, bassist Kip Winger formed his own group in 1986; in addition to vocalist/bassist Winger, the group featured guitarist Reb Beach, bassist Paul Taylor, and drummer Rod Morgenstein, formerly of the Dixie Dregs. Taking their name from their leader after a last-minute change from Sahara, Winger specialized in the stylish pop-metal that sent Bon Jovi and Poison to the top of the charts. The band's eponymous debut sold over a million copies on the strength of the rocker "Seventeen" and the ballad "Headed for a Heartbreak." Winger's second album, 1990's In the Heart of the Young, was equally successful, selling over a million copies and featuring the hit power ballad "Miles Away." However, the band didn't outlast the post-alternative pop-metal backlash and the group faded away after the release of their 1993 album Pull. Kip Winger launched a solo career later that decade, releasing three albums before reuniting with his former bandmates in 2002. After a brief tour alongside fellow pop-metal veterans Poison, the band returned to the studio to craft their first album in more than a decade. 2006's IV stuck close to the formula that made Winger famous, and the resulting reunion tour was captured on the two-disc set Winger Live. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
Saw them at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. NJ, great show. Of course when they did "She's Only 17", they had to change the age, or it just would have been wrong in every way.

The one kid from beavis and butthead wore a shirt of this band and he got laughed at
Madalaine is still my favorite Winger song ever. Just wish we would have heard more songs like this one from them. They went too keyboard driven most of the time. had they kept this harder edge, they might have faired much better.
The version of this CD is very different than the one I've had since 88. It's like they re-did the entire album.......? and what's up with the picure? looks blurry.
saw kip winger do live acoustic show this summer. my friends band was supposed to open for him. but my friends band had to back out at last moment. I still went to show. was very disappointed in the sound. kip seems to be losing his hearing.
Man, I feel old. I was 14 when their debut hit. Saw them in concert alongside Extreme and Tangier sometime in H.S. Not a great band, but plenty of H.S. memories...
Their later stuff was their best stuff and it got little to no airplay. I guess once the "hair band" 80's drifted into obscurity no one was interested anymore.
Like Winger saw em live when I was 13....1990 eeek long time ago!! I still swing my hair like Tawny Kitaen when I here Seventeen!!! Yes I know she was the Whitesnake chick but she was the ultimate hair band chick..:) I dig it!
I'll listen to this bs song 17 only long enough for me to slam it here. Kip Winger - the 5'5" set of teeth poser from Phoenix. What a Gawdawful band - Poseur Deluxe should be his middle name. Either that or just puke. Proof that having a couple of shredders on guitar does not make a band good. Put your friggin shirt back on dammit.
Ugh! What the *$#! is INX doing on the cover of that classic Winger Album? Based on past comments, it looks like they haven't changed it in six months.

Did everyone ever take this band seriously? Wow, this is one from the 80's I wish would stay there. SUCKS!!!!!!
I'm tired of looking at the gay hairdo of INXS' singer...don't know his name, because I was never a fan ;-). Time to change the album cover, don't you think??!

INXS album cover for their first album? I am a Winger music fan, and if I were gay, oh nevermind.... }8-) Winger fell apart I think after Kip's wife was killed in an accident. Probably over engineered rock, but I still think it holds up very well and bought all of them, except didn't even know there was a IV release, I will have to investigate. 8)
"...in addition to vocalist/bassist Winger, the group featured guitarist Reb Beach, bassist Paul Taylor, and drummer Rod Morgenstein..."
Wait a sec, wasn't Paul Taylor the other guitar/keyboard player? And on an unrelated note, there are some vids of them on youtube playing in live 2007, much smaller venue, but still a pretty damn impressive sound.
ahhh the 80s hair metal how much I wish bands from today would take lessons on how to put out good music like this and not the crap we are forced to listen to today
