Wolfsheim is one of Germany's inveterate synth pop groups, a band that has outlived numerous rock & roll trends by remaining committed to their original sound. The group was formed in 1987 by siblings Markus Reinhardt and Olli Reinhardt and Pompejo Ricciardi (vocals). However, Ricciardi departed from Wolfsheim shortly after they recorded their first demo; he was replaced by Peter Heppner, a singer who was already familiar with the brothers since they were all raised in the same area of Wilhelmsburg, Germany. Olli eventually left the band as well, turning Wolfsheim into a duo. Heppner started writing new tracks, and Wolfsheim distributed two more cassettes to record labels. All of them replied with a rejection. In 1991, Strange Ways Records released Wolfsheim's CD single "The Sparrows and the Nightingales"; it sold more than 10,000 copies. It was followed by "It's Not Too Late"; a full-length, No Happy View, appeared a year later, selling more than 40,000 copies. In 1996, Reinhardt recorded Der Genetische Traum under the name Neustart, a side project featuring members of Girls Under Glass and Stalin. Wolfsheim's fifth LP, Spectators, peaked at number two in Germany in 1999. Spectators was released in the U.S. in 2001 by Metropolis Records; Casting Shadows came in 2003. ~ Michael Sutton, Rovi
One of the very best... couldn't listen to this after any hurricane or tsunami disaster... brings me to tears~ just can't get enough (opps that's another great song from this awesome genre)
Wolfsheim is one of my ultimate favorites. Heppner's voice is so full of emotion. My favorite songs are Once in a Lifetime and Blind. Beautiful lyrics and synth sound.
germany is so different-great synth pop-great thrash-great heavy metal and the music seems more unabashed-less worried if its commercial or not-rammstein-however not my personal cup of tea-is another case in point.

My new favorite! I hear Sparrows and the Nightingales play at clubs. Hearing Find Your Gone on Pandora was a treat. I bought Casting Shadows over the weekend, love it!
Too bad they are no longer together. At least Peter Heppner has his own solo career going. That is what broke the band up. Peter signed a contract for several solo releases and then the other parnter in Wolfsheim sued Peter. There are still working it out, but for now, no more Wolfsheim!
What is it about this guy's voice that's just so soothing and addictive? It's hypnotic or something. One of those bands that I'm not particularly proud to say I like, but I do. Sort of a guilty pleasure.
DM, Cause & Effect, Wolfsheim, and Red flag can kick the living shitaz out of any "popular so called music" that is out there in this day and age. Long live 92.7 wdre-wlir
tihgasac15- it's synth-pop with a twist of EBM you could say. Spans the 80's, 90's and a bit of this decade. Most prominent in the 80's and early to mid 90's though.

a Reinhart knows a Reinhardt when they hear one (or two in this case) haha...awesome
Have any of you heard of Peter's solo stuff? Freakin' amazing, I tell you. But, I am sad to see the band split.

hey i was there too, an amazing concert!!!! seriously i am so glad i got to see them before they broke up. hopefully they can come back together and make another CD or two. I got to talk to Peter Heppner before the concert because he was outside smoking, he was an okay guy a little cocky no wonder he broke the contract for wolfsheim.
i absolutely love wolfsheim, i feel blessed to have been able to see them in chicago on their first, and only, u.s. tour ... and i guess last ... =(
but yeah, they played every song on casting shadows, including the instrumental track at the end ... and all their best stuff, plus my favorite song of theirs, "this time" ... it was wild, before the show i was talking with someone i met in the audience and i said i wanted them to play "this time" but we both agreed there was no chance ... =)
If you really want a good CD to get started Spectators is good but the newest CD, Casting Shadows is the best to listen to. Casting Shadows every single song is good from the CD, even the instrumental at the end is fantastic. One of my all time favorite CD's.

I've been following these guys for years and it's good to see so many tracks available here. If you're new to Wolfsheim and interested in hearing more, the album "Spectators" is one of their finest and it's a great place to start.
I made a station based off of Suicide Commando and these guys came up as well... not quite the same sound, but totally unforgettable and amazing!!! Thank you, Pandora!
