Zucchero

Adelmo Fornaciari is the talented Italian musician more commonly known to the world by his nickname, Zucchero ("Sugar"), given to him by an elementary school teacher. He began playing the guitar in his home province of Reggio Emilia, focusing on music in the blues/R&B mold. As a teenager, he founded a local band called Le Nuove Luci. After forming another group, Sugar and Candies, in 1978, Zucchero began writing as well -- Italian pop songs for other artists, and more blues-oriented material for himself. He won the 1981 Castrocaro Festival, which led to performances at the 1982 and 1983 Sanremo Festivals. The exposure allowed Zucchero to release his own solo album, 1983's Un Po' Di Zucchero. His song "Donne," performed with the newly formed Zucchero & the Randy Jackson Band, caused a sensation at the 1985 Sanremo Festival; even though "Donne" didn't win, it did become a hit. This introduced the Zucchero blend of Italian pop and electric blues to a larger audience. During the late '80s and early '90s, he became one of the best-selling artists in Italy and a favorite all over Europe. Although he performed at the 1994 Woodstock Festival and appeared with Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, the Scorpions, and Luciano Pavarotti, Zucchero's American audience remained limited. In the new millennium, Zucchero's success has continued as a performer and an award-winning songwriter. In 2002, he released another successful solo album, Shake. Three years later Zucchero & Co., a collection of duets with some of his (mainly) non-Italian fans, including Eric Clapton, Macy Gray, and Sheryl Crow, came out, followed in 2006 by another full-length record, Fly. ~ Aaron Latham, Rovi

Didn't realize he was a Woodstock. I was blown away when I saw Bocelli and Zucchero together. Then I saw the old video of Pavarotti, a young Bocelli, and Zucchero. The music! Words cannot express the beauty!
Zucchero is the best of Blues from Italy!
I am obsessed with Zucchero's music!!

Just started listening to Zucchero. Absolutyly love his songs and especially the style. I'm looking forward to his next album.

Ciao
I first heard about this artist during a visit to Germany. Popular singer in Europe. America needs to discover him.
I have bought everything i can get my hands on, what a wonderful talent that i have missed for all these years. To see him in concert just went to the top of my to do list!
I've been listening to him since the beginning of his career. His music has always been (and still is) the soundtrack of my life. Long life to Zucchero, the real King of the Blues!

Just saw Sugar tonight in Cranston, RI at the Park Theatre. What an incredible show! Maybe 700 people max, great acoustics and an incredibly tight band behind him. One of the best shows I've seen in a while (in any language). While it's too bad more people aren't exposed to his music, I won't complain as I got to see him in an incredibly intimate setting and feel like I almost have him all to myself. That made my month!!!
The best!! His voice.....

Do not understand much of what he is singing about - just love his voice and music!!!
I saw Zucchero in concert at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside,Pa a few years ago. The entire crowd was Italian complete with open shirts, hairy chests, gaudy bling, cigarettes hanging from their lips, big hair, Capri pants and high heels. My wife and I were the only ones who were speaking in English. The concert was complete mayhem. It was like we came to see the Beatles. Zucchero ruled and the crowd was eating out of his hands and hanging on every note. I've never been at a more exciting show

I love this music !!! It is very expressive - a terrific voice !!
I saw him up-close in Somerville, MA, in the Somerville Theater a while ago.
A small theater, an intimate concert that was, in one word, awesome!
I couldn't believe that I only had to spend about $40 to see and hear him up close!
Zucchero just appeared in NYC at the Mandela Day concert in celebration of Mandela's 91 st birthday. He was knock-you-so c k s - o f f amazing.
I love this man's voice!!!

I've been listening to Zucchero for a few years and just can't get enough, in any languages. Does he give concerts? Does he come to the States?
