Zwan

Following the dissolution of the Smashing Pumpkins in December 2000 and a brief stint moonlighting with New Order, Billy Corgan quietly put together his first official post-Pumpkins project in late 2001, a quartet known as Zwan. Not surprisingly, Corgan opted to enlist on drums his longtime musical foil and creative spark plug Jimmy Chamberlin, with the other half of the lineup rounded out with guitarist Matt Sweeney (formerly of Chavez and Skunk) and guitarist/bassist David Pajo (formerly of Slint and Tortoise). The group surreptitiously debuted in November 2001 with a series of four small club shows in the Los Angeles/San Diego area, followed by a brief jaunt through the Midwest the following month. Each of these two mini-tours boasted an entirely different set of songs, hinting at the wealth of material that the prolific band had already worked out in their few months together. In April 2002, Zwan morphed into a quintet with the addition of bassist Paz Lenchantin (of A Perfect Circle fame), who joined the group in time for a series of shows in St. Louis and Corgan's hometown of Chicago. These dates featured yet a third set of music, different from the previous two, bringing the total number of songs in Zwan's repertoire up into the neighborhood of 60. After inking a deal with Reprise, Zwan released their first single, "Honestly", in November 2002. Their debut album, Mary Star of the Sea, followed in January 2003, coinciding with a sold-out, five-night stand at the Metro in Chicago -- the same venue where the Smashing Pumpkins had been laid to rest two years prior. Sadly, the life of Zwan was short lived. Founding member Billy Corgan annouced the band's break up in September 2003, adding that his "heart was in Smashing Pumpkins." ~ Steve Bekkala, Rovi

Until I die of a broken heart... ill keep fighting to make my wrongs right
Love this record. It's in my top ten records of all time. I wish I could hear the other 50 Zwan Songs somewhere. I wish I could've seen em en Vivo

This album is in my top 10 of all time. I'm glad I got to see them live as well. Paz spent the entire time facing the drums with her cute little butt and sexy Daisy Duke shorts facing the audience. The audience erupted with Jesus/I.

Best album since Siamese Dream. Corgan broke the band up because he learned that his new bandmates were junkies (he already knew Jimmy was a junkie). Corgan ended up hating them and vowed to never release their unreleased material.
Would love to see them get ZWAN back together for some shows or record another album or two...

Hey Pandora, where's the Spun soundtrack at? Best thing Zwan ever did in my opinion.
Zwan was an awesome band that was, unfortunatel y , short lived. Luckily, I also got to see them live a couple of times . Billy seems a bit lost these days. I'll never understand why he insists on calling his band Smashing Pumpkins when he's the only one left standing. SP = Billy, Jimmy, D'arcy and James...

zwan really was the last good thing billy has done. his solo album sounded like a bunch of bad "adore" demos & the new sp stuff... something's just really off w/it. it's a shame that the band imploded cuz the stuff that didn't make it to the record was even better then the stuff that did. "riverview", "spilled milk", & "freedom ain't what it use to be" should have all made it onto the record. i am so glad i was able to see them 2x before they disbanded.
This is by far, in my opinion, better than Smashing Pumpkins. That band just got weighted down by Corgan, but he's so much better in this band. I think it's because he actually has other really good musicians to act as a tempering force.

Zwan was good, but their album is bad. Poor song selection. Check out some shows on archive.org and see what I mean. Great band that put out a s**tty album. Not sure what Corgan was thinking when he decided on most of this record. Only interesting songs are Desire, Yeah! (despite the name), Endless Summer, and the title track. Others range from bad to so-so.
I love his voice. I don't care what band he's in or project it is.
"Honestly" sounds a lot like most of Smashing Pumpkins' songs, especially older stuff. like smashing pumpkins but more guitar pop-oriented rather than hard rock/punk-in f l u e n c
HA, smashing pumpkins gone on a diet...tossi n g avocados
Here have some diet Punkin'!
Zwan was just Punkin's light!

When I saw Paz with APC, she was hellish. Starting the show in the spotlight alone with a violin. Sweet. Whatever got into her that she wanted to make pure $hit with these losers? This was bad.
Zwan was horrrrible. I bought the cd in 8th grade on the way home from Canada
Caca? You are cuckoo for caca! Love this album- way better than the solo album and the abomination that was Adore.
unfortunatel y , i have to agree, zwan was caca. corgan can mark this as the worst post-pumpkin s creation he did. his solo project is great, zwan just didnt have the right elements, its dry has no real intensity and the songs go no where. too bad its caca.
no, YOU are the one who is caca.

Zwan is simply fantastic. Seeing them live was awesome. Best money I've ever spent on concert tickets. I'm glad I saw them twice before they broke up. They had the most insanely massive speaker stack ever - it was amazing.
