Gaelic Storm

Even before releasing an LP, the Santa Monica, California-based Celtic group Gaelic Storm -- vocalist/accordionist Patrick Murphy, bodhran player Stephen Wehmeyer, guitarist/mandolinist Steve Twigger, fiddler Samantha Hunt, and djembe player Shep Lonsdale -- left an impression on audiences worldwide with their appearance as the "steerage band" entertaining immigrant third-class passengers in James Cameron's blockbuster film epic Titanic. The unprecedented success of the movie brought Gaelic Storm to the attention of the Higher Octave label, which in 1998 issued the group's self-titled LP. Herding Cats followed a year later, with Tree appearing in spring 2001 and Special Reserve arriving in 2003. The group's fifth album, 2004's How Are We Getting Home?, debuted at number three on the world music charts, 2006's Bring Yer Wellies landed at number two, and 2008's What's the Rumpus? managed to snag the number one spot. The full-length albums Cabbage and Chicken Boxer arrived in 2010 and 2012, respectively. ~ Jason Ankeny

I've seen this band live 5x. Never fail to put on a great show. They need to come to the NY area more. Good guys, and after the show they manage to always find their fans at a local pub, sit down and shoot the breeze.

Gaelic Storm exemplifies the height of Irish music, cleverness and lyrical genius! If you have the chance to see them in concert, spend the $$$ no matter what the cost. You will NOT regret it.

Sure would be nice if they updated the bio's list of people. In the above lineup, Patrick and Steve are the only ones left. Peter Purvis and Ryan Lacey are both incredible musicians, and are key to the band' sound. I would have said the same thing about Jesse (a great fiddler!), but I have seen Kiana a few times now, and she is also doing a great job. Bottom line: GS's history is important, and interesting.
