Jerry Garcia Band

Though he was chiefly known as the leader of the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia was much more than that. For many, he was the embodiment of the freewheeling artistic spirit of the 1960s. A masterly guitarist and songwriter, and a highly underrated vocalist, Garcia was a true music lover, involving himself in numerous non-Dead projects over the years. His most widely known project was the Jerry Garcia Band, which formed in 1975 and produced one studio album, 1978's Cats Under the Stars. Regular live performances followed during the '80s and '90s, plus the live album Jerry Garcia Band, recorded in 1990. After Garcia's death in 1995, many more archival live sets were released. Bassist John Kahn and keyboard player Melvin Seals were the most regular sidemen in the band. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

The soul grabbing power of this band is absolutely amazing. I am 37 years old and have been to over 100 shows parents were in a biker club and letting jerry into my heart was my escape from reality. Still is about a week ago i took a drive down lake shore drive while becoming one with carpet and jerry came out of my tapestry like a rain drop stood on my coffee table and jammed out for 5 hours and said to be careful on your journey my little brother. I am still blown away so thank you jerry your

Listening to Garcia's guitar playing transcends the "music" he plays, becoming a 'voice' . Nobody else has EVER surpassed the sheer EMOTIONAL affect he put out on a guitar. TRUE ARTISTIC PROCESS AT IT's BEST !!!

It's wonderful to know that so much love for Jerry and his Bands is still out there, 1st saw the Grateful Dead at Pauley Pavilion in the fall of 1971 while attending UCLA. From then on I can count some 100 plus concerts and I'm not even counting the times seeing Jerry and his band playing around Berkeley and other small venues. Best concert I recall was at the Cow Palace, just south of San Francisco, at a New Year's Eve concert. But the closing week at Winterland in downtown SF was awesome!

Saw The Stones, Saw Led Zeppelin, Saw Pink Floyd, The Who, Allman Brothers and NUMEROUS other bands back in the day (70's-80's) but NOBODY and I mean NOBODY compared to Jerry Garcia with his band or with the Dead.
Simply Awesome on SO MANY OCCASIONS... Took it to a whole other level, like ONLY great jazz music (and sometimes Black Gospel music) can...
