John Philip Sousa

November 6, 1854 - March 6, 1932
born in Washington D.C., composed during the Romantic period
John Philip Sousa (1854-1932) was an American composer and band leader whose name is almost synonymous with marches. Trained in music in his youth and educated in the Marine Corps Band, Sousa composed his first march at 16. Throughout his career, he was renowned for his rousing patriotic marches, such as The Stars and Stripes Forever, The Washington Post, and The Liberty Bell. But Sousa was also successful as a composer of operettas, including El Capitan and The Bride Elect. With the Sousa Band, he toured around the world to great critical acclaim and received honors from heads of state. ~ Blair Sanderson, Rovi

Even though the Marines like to claim Sousa as their own, during World War I he served as an officer in the US Naval Reserve. Also, Sousa didn't write a bass drum score to his music. However, he did add a special bass drum accent to such songs as The Washington Post and Simper Fidelis. Many scores omit Sousa's bass drum accent.

It was Sousa marches that lead to the imperialisti c conquest of Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, and the Philippines during the Spanish American War. My favorite Nobles of the Mystic Shrine by Sousa.

This freaked me out This isn't fake. Apparently, if you copy and paste this on ten comments in the next ten minutes, you will have the best day of your life tomorrow. You will either get kissed or asked out, if you break this chain you will see a little dead girl in your room tonight. In the next 53 minutes someone will say I love you or I'm sorry This freaked me out This isn't fake

memorial day 2012 and my son is a proud Marine, he is overseas now. May God bless them all! John Stuart Mill once said, I'm going to paraphase, because I won't get it quite right, war is an ugly thing, but not the ugliset of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patrriotic feeling, which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing more important than his personal safety is a miserable creature and has no

In regards to Charles Dain, I actually looked to see what Monty Python said in regards to Liberty Bell, and they actually chose it because it was publicly available without a need for copyright. They also felt the bell helped provide a more "serious" tone while the rest was completely random to the show. Before they used it, the British and Canadian senior infantry regiments used the song for marches which I also found interesting. .

I normally like Monty Python, But I am very upset with them for using a bastardized version of this great song(Liberty Bell) as their theme.
