Niccolò Paganini

October 27, 1782 - May 27, 1840
born in Genoa, Italy, composed during the Romantic period
Niccolò Paganini (1782-1840) was an Italian violinist and composer, regarded in his time as the greatest violinist in the world. His international career began with his first tour of Europe in 1825; between then and 1834, he dazzled audiences with his unprecedented technical prowess. As a composer of violin concertos and chamber works for violin and guitar, Paganini had success, though his music is primarily designed for virtuosity, and to a lesser degree for expression. Perhaps his best-known piece is the Caprice No. 24, the subject of many composers' sets of variations, including Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini. ~ Blair Sanderson, Rovi

Yes, there has been a movie made in Russia many years ago. It was actually a mini series. Was quite good.
has there been a definitive movie made about the life and art of Niccolo?
Ah.. the devils first musical poet.

I feel like such a nerd I'm listening to Paganini as I'm studying my lines for theatre. The play is hilariously the dark comedy Paganini by don nigro. Oh the irony, I'm the only person who exists in the play other than Paganini (Antonia a singer in his chorus who he dated lol) the sad part is in the play he falls in love three times and they all end up dead. He smothers the first the second drowns herself, and my character is thrown out a window multiple times lol
So, what? Ops they forgot. What did they forget, anyways? What do they know. Just listen to his violin concertos, it tells so much. It does not talk anything of what they suposedly forgot.
ooooo kill em!
they forgot the part about his sexual deviancy and gambling addiction lol
Caprice for Solo Violin in B minor is actually quite stressful to listen to. Certainly a talented composer, though! Difficult music and technical interest throughout the piece. Just not my style, I suppose.
The chicks dug him.

Not a big Paganini fan, but I -- sort of like this one, parts of it anyhow.
i can play his music by blowing over the top of a beer bottle
Something in my soul dances when I hear his work.
Amazingly difficult to play. I would have to say that it is extremely difficult to even attempt on the guitar. His virtuosity with the violin is astounding. Paganini must be one of my favorite composers and violinists of all time.

I have adspted many of his works for guitar over the past decade. His phrasing and rhythmic balance are a fascinating and beautiful study to say the least.
I'm playing one of his, Witches' Dance... So pretty... Whenever I play it(on my violin) people tell me I am so talented and I'm like"it's not me, it's Paganini!"
All that I would like to add.....PURE GENIOUS
@yodaintx: best of luck. i LOVE paganini, anyone who can play his music well holds my deepest respect.

I love this piece especially. I am actually currently learning it. VERY HARD
Dear Ben Whitmore. It has been 4 years ago, but maybe he didn't want to transcribe the notes. Maybe he wanted to play instead.
Thank you, Pandora. I have been listening to the classics from an early age, and have learned more in the past few months than at any other time of my life. On Oct. 15 I will be 86, and this keeps me young.
I have heard that critcs of Paganini was posessed by the devil; could it be that he was inspired by God? How stupid and closed minded some people can be. Of the present day musicians, I think that Pearlman is the best, bar none. He overcame an illness that would have put anyone else under the table.; infantile paralysis (sp?). From an early age , he was above the norm as an eagle is above a sparrow.

love this.

Paganini was considered the best violinist of his time, overshadowin g his predecesor Vivaldi. At that time, violin strings were made of cat gut and it is said that the reason Paganini's violin had that special quality of sound is because his violin had strings made of human gut. His critics maintained that he was possessed by the Devil. He is one of the top violinists on my list.
no one can equal Paganini.. absolutely no one!!! if anyone did, kill them... hehe just kidding
A violinist played one of the caprices at my church one Sunday. After a standing ovation, the minister said, There are miracles!
powellmike99
I own Paganini's 24 Caprices album as performed by Itzhak Perlman. I believe Perlman is underrated.
Has anyone else wondered why pandora won't let you like artist/compo s e r s from the lineage of western classical/tr a d i t i o n a l serious high-art music tradition? It seems odd to me.
Yngwie Malmsteen is greatly influenced by Paganini, so if you can handle heavy electric guitar you will find he composes and plays with this style.
Who are today's virtuosi who can play AND compose the way people of this age did?
personally I like yoyo-ma better, but I love this guy! I also play cello and I look up to yoyoma!
wow!
What a beast.
Magnifique!

It takes me to a calming place!
he has no equal. then or now.
It's really awesome the feeling how he played every song, I just enjoy every one of his master piece.

I was very young when I learned about Paganini... My father was a music addict and had plenty of acetate discs and tapes of Paganini, interpreted by different performers.. . Rugero Ricci and Yehudi Menuhin were the best in my opinion. Over time, however, while collecting everything about the violin virtuosos (notably Paganini and Sarasate) I got to know 'young' performers, such as Shlomo Mintz and Alexander Markov... do not miss the chance to hear
AHH-And now there is no stress....On l y the sublime!
orchkris
I LOVE his song the little bell. It is by far my favorite.
Beautiful!! ahh
I've heard that Paganini composed several pieces that he refused to transcribe, because he was convinced that there would never be a violinist that possessed the skill required to play them! :D
lindsayprich
pure beauty and sonic excellence come forth from his compositions
Magnificent! I am wondering, is there now any violinist able to play ALL the works of Paganini.? Is there any research activity to rediscover P.'s lost/forgott e n works?
