I'm a retired telecom/communications manager (read: I get social security!). I've enjoyed jazz since I was in my teens and although I studied piano for 12 years, I really never had the "chops" to play it. I have a son who is an outstanding musician who plays classical trumpet as well as lead guitar in several Dallas/Fort Worth Blues and Rock bands. My/our other son is a visual artist who is also a big jazz fan. As a matter of fact,. when he got married he got a jazz/gypsy band to perform. It was terrific. Some of my best moments have been seeing and hearing great artists in person. These includ Marian McPartland, Etta James, Stan Kenton, Cannonball Adderly, Charlie Byrd, Earl "Fatha" Hines, Nancy Wilson as well as some great "rockers" back in the 60's such as Janis Joplin. I truly believe that music is the international language and it's brought me close to people that I'm not sure I'd normally be meeting without music as the common denominator.
