I grew up listening to many of my Dad's Jazz records (mostly bebop and big band) My first record was Elton John's Yellow Brick Road. A gift from my sisters for my Birthday. Loved the variety and the great stories it told. Later I went crazy for Steely Dan, Neil Young, Dire Straits, Elvis Costello, The Smiths, The Cure, New Order, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Tom Waits, Pavement, Johnny Cash, Dinosaur Jr., Galaxie 500, Sonic Youth, Sebadoh, The Pixies (makes me laugh) and later Elliot Smith, Neutral Milk Hotel, Guided By Voices, For Stars, Magnetic Fields (best ironic lyrics) and many many more. Also love Aquarius Records in SF. They've turned me on to so much new music. So has Pandora. Recently read the bio for the Pixies and now listening to Big Black radio. Some good 90's punk and an influence of Frank Black.
