Sara Watkins

Fiddle player and singer/songwriter Sara Watkins was born on June 8, 1981, in Santa Monica, CA, and first began performing professionally in 1989 in an early version of the group that became Nickel Creek. Released in 2000, Nickel Creek's self-titled debut album was produced by Alison Krauss and peaked in the Top 20 of the Billboard country chart; it remained on the list for more than a year. The group's second album, 2002's This Side, built upon such success by reaching number two. Watkins' multi-instrumental skills proved to be one of the band's key assets, and her songwriting prowess developed as Nickel Creek's career progressed.

In 2004, the bandmembers formed an ad hoc group called Mutual Admiration Society with Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket and John Paul Jones, formerly of Led Zeppelin. The supergroup cut a self-titled album and toured in support. Meanwhile, Jones encouraged Watkins to make a solo album, which she prepared for by playing solo shows at the Los Angeles club Largo. She also played on recording sessions as a fiddle player and/or harmony singer with Hank Williams, Jr., the Chieftains, Béla Fleck, Darol Anger, Switchfoot, Jonny Lang, Dan Wilson, Ben Lee, Richard Thompson, Mandy Moore, and Alex Woodard, among others. Developing as a songwriter, she contributed to five songs on the Nickel Creek album Why Should the Fire Die? The group went on indefinite hiatus after the disc's release, and Watkins signed to Nonesuch Records as a solo artist before contacting Jones about producing her debut album. Sara Watkins was released April 7, 2009. The Blake Mills-produced Sun Midnight Sun followed in 2012, and featured guest spots from Fiona Apple, Benmont Tench and Jackson Browne, among others. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi

I saw Sara perform with Jackson Browne last night at the State Theater in New Brunswick, NJ. What an outstanding performer- so much energy and onstage presence. All I can say is wow!!!
My husband and I saw Sara perform last night-she has an amazing voice and is great in concert.
Her song 'My Friend' was exactly what I needed to help my nephew when he returned from Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He laid on my couch for 4 months and I was on the verge of kicking him out. This song put everything in perspective and shamed me into being both the friend and uncle he needed. Happy to report he is now married, a father, and making his mark in the world. I don't have the words to express my gratitude.
sholko1 I saw Sara on the same tour with Keillor in CT. Sara has a phenomenal voice!

I saw her perform with Garrison Keillor in San Diego at Humphrey's a couple years ago. I had not heard of her before but have followed her since. Such a delilghtful talent . . .
Sara was amazing and provided unforgettabl e memories with her seemingly infinite collaboratio n s on Cayamo 2012
Sara now performs with her guitarist brother. I saw them with the Blind Boys of Alabama and have got to say her playing and singling have advanced FAR since this piece. They do much more than bluegrass.
this day in age our souls seem doomed from the gloom of wallstreet and false pretense brought on by our government, yet when we turn to the lord and relinquish our fears and realize BE ONLY FEARFUL OF GOD, shall we progress as a Single Nation Under God Indivisible with Liberty and Justice for all. Thanks be to GOD! Our Father in the Highest

SHE IS A HOTTIE AS WELL...
I was fortunate to catch her performance at the 80/35 concert in Des Moines last week. Even though the weather accompanied her show with rain, it was still a great performance. A very talented artist.
