The Velvet Teen

What began as a side project called "the Secret Band" -- an apt name, considering singer/guitarist Judah Nagler and drummer Logan Whitehurst were actually hiding the music from their bandmates -- soon blossomed into something these musicians wanted to share with greater public. After putting together a full-length demo on a four-track, they left behind their band Little Tin Frog and recorded an EP, Comasynthesis, as the Velvet Teen. Bassist/vocalist Josh Staples joined and the art pop trio self-released an EP, The Great Beast February, in early 2001. In 2002, the group kicked off San Francisco's vaunted Noise Pop Festival and toured the country in support of their full-length debut, Out of the Fierce Parade. Elysium followed two years later. Their 2006 EP Gyzmkid with drummer Casey Deitz captured a more IDM-influenced sound and paved the way for their next full-length record, C*m Laude, which came out later that year. Sadly, Whitehurst (who had been playing with Junior Science Club) passed away that December, ultimately losing his battle with brain cancer. ~ Ron DePasquale, Rovi

Elysium is one of the best albums ever put together, and I believe they recorded it in a barn off of a laptop. Beautifully haunting vocals and well written lyrics...jus t listen to chimera obscurant with lyrics.

BTW, the old stuff is emo-c*m laude is more experimental , noise rock and arty. No Star is straight rock. Great live shows.

They are currently in the studio writing and recording their next full length disc as a follow up to the No Star EP (which is a fantastic preview of the new album)
without a doubt my favorite band... they move me...
I've been on this band since day one, just wanna say that I love them, that's all. Nuff said, Great Music. I could go on and on..
the velvet teen... rabbit!
I would love to see Logan Whitehurst's solo stuff added. He was a funny b**tard.

I just found out about this Band. Great Sound

The lead singer sounds like Jamie Cullum. A band so full of talent and promise. Logan Whitehurst was a very talented young man all the way to the end it seems. It doesn't seem fair and yet I suppose we should be glad to have the few discs that are out there with Logan Whitehurst.
Oh, and they aren't shoegaze. Pretty straight emo.
One thing to remember when listening to "reverie" is that Judah was around 18 when he wrote it. He and his brother Ephraim are basically musical geniuses. I highly suggest listening to their newer work to get a better idea of how good they really are. Also, check out Josh's other band The New Trust.
Whiny shoegazer crap. Ugh.
i like this band a lot. their name is stupid
Pandora is missing Immortality.
These guys are really fun to listen too.
their band name alone bleeds.
great beast february. whats that about?
sounds amazing.
If you like this band, you'd also like The Umbrellas. Both bands are definitely worth checking out. Very neat style.

Don't believe Beansworthe. He's probably sitting in his Camaro rocking out to Frampton drinking light beer all alone.

F**king amazing band. Words cannot describe how wonderful the Velvet Teen's music is and it gets a hell of a lot better live too. Plain and simple, listen to these guys...you will never regret it!
I find it rather shallow and trite.
The Velvet Teen moves me in a way that most artists dont. Crashing rythems, deep felt vocals, crushing melody, it takes my breath away. They dont play their music, they bleed it. It's beautiful and forlorn, deep and fanciful.
I love there style of music. Never really heard music like this. My favorite song is Forlorn on their album Elysium. THey Rock
